McVities Penguin............
McVitites Penguin bars are a well known favourite of the nation. This I assume only because they have been going for such a long time that people must be buying them for the company to keep making them. They are not the sort of thing that I would buy to eat at home but often, as is today, I will eat a bar at work with a cup of tea.
The Penguin bars come in a multi-pack of 8 bars all individually wrapped and usually can be picked up for around the £1 price. Each wrapped bar comes in a different colour wrapper from the previous in the pack and a penguin doing a different pose. They also include a rather poor joke on every wrapper. The one I have just eaten is "What does a Penguin Sing on a Birthday? Freeze a jolly good fellow". Very bad! The wrapper is okay I guess but somehow just reminds me of school and lunch time! So I guess they are perfect for packed lunches.
The bar itself is basically a chocolate biscuit sandwich with a creamy chocolate type filling all covered in a thin layer of chocolate.
Now having just eaten one for the first time in months, perhaps longer, I realise that I really am not so keen on them. To me the chocolate biscuit is not nearly as chocolaty tasting as I would like and the creamy filling is very sweet and a little sickly if I am totally honest. The outer layer of chocolate is very thin but because the chocolate tastes like that cheap chocolate it is probably a good thing it is only a thin layer.
All in all I don't think I like them at all really. I wouldn't say they were horrible or that I couldn't eat it because that isn't the case. I would eat one if I was hungry and there really was nothing else but I most certainly wouldn't buy a multi packet on a weekly shop.
I think these Penguin bars really only deserve a 2 star rating from me. I personally didn't enjoy eating the bar and it was a waste of valuable calories that I could of used elsewhere! The only good points for me are the fact that they are of a reasonable price and don't go down too badly with a cp of tea.
I do hope this has been of some help/interest to you.
Many thanks for taking the time to read,
Summary: not a great eat
