Advantages: Strong in flavour and nearly runny!

Disadvantages: Very moreish and not that cheap (small packages)

Pico Picandine is one of France's many cheeses, in the larger supermarkets nearby there's always quite a good reliable selection of French cheeses but on occasion something special seems to pop up, a cheese that I've never seen before and one that isn't too harsh on the pocket.

Pico Picandine was just that type of cheese, mine came as 4 flat relatively small circles, the size of them was relatively annoying because in reality they were a little too large for a mouthful and even putting a whole one on a sandwich seemed overly greedy but at the same time they weren't big enough to warrant cutting up. In the majority of cases it comes in one a wooden type box - I like to call it a cheese coffin!

The patty shaped cheese has an extremely soft chalky white rind, a squidgy centre, it has a strong camembert like smell which won't make you a popular choice to sit next to on public transport, tastewise it's very much an unpasteurised goat's cheese, strong in flavour, so much so that it gives your throat a bit of a kick.

It's temptingly moreish but consumption should be kept within reason, not only because it's extremely fattening but because you'll notice it has quite a strong aftertaste and is best enjoyed in moderation.

The cheese is well suited to be being drunk with red wine and also suits freshly baked bread but is probably slightly better on its own.
