“ Manufacturer: Pork Farms / Food Type: Pies „
When we went to Tesco on Xmas Eve the only decent pork pies left was these mild sweet cured ones by Pork Farms. I've had Pork Farms stuff before and know it's good quality so thought these would be ok.
They're nice, we got the snack sized ones that Dooyoo have got the photo of but they also come in a larger sized one for you to cut up and share. A 2 pack costs £1.19, I think they were on special offer when we brought them but I know I paid full price for them yesterday.
The filling is nice and meaty and there's the piece I had didn't have any jelly..... bonus!!! It's got a proper nice flavour and I think it tastes a bit smoked but that's like an aftertaste and isn't very strong. It's got a meaty texture as well so half of one of these individual pork is filling, you can tell the meat content is high because it's actually like chewing meat and not a load of fat and gristle.
The pastry is a bit greasy for me. You can taste the grease on it and I reckon that's a shame because the texture of the pastry is wicked. It's very stodgy and filling, not like the thin chewing pastry that is on most of the supermarket own brand pork pies. It feels greasy to the touch as well and I deffo have to wipe my hands after I've picked a piece of this pork pie up!
That spoils it a bit for me but the filling is nice enough for me to say that I like these pork pies big time. They're very high quality and are wicked dipped in bbq sauce, everyone loved them who tried them over Xmas and we've carried on buying them.
I can have a bit of the pastry before the greasy taste gets too much but like I said the filling is yummy so you can take some of the pastry off and just eat the meat.
