Pot Noodle - who in this country hasn't had one of these? A staple diet for builders and students, the quick snack to pick up at the all night garage on the way home from the pub. The snack that you know is absolute rubbish, but at the time, feels so right!
Poot Noodles have been around for decades now. I can actually still remember having my first one as a five year old, with my dad while renovating the family home back in '84.
I think as a kid there is a fascination with Pot Noodles, or at least the making of them. It's like the first thing you get to 'cook'. Sure your parents will boil the kettle and add the water, but it's YOU that nurtures it, stirs it when it needs it, and decides when is just the right time to add the all important sauce packet!
After that first encounter, I will admit I scarcely had another one over the folowing twelve years or so. Then I got to uni, and god, I lived on them. I was in halls where there was a restaurant, so we didn't have kitchens, but in my room I had a kettle, and with Pot Noodles, that and a fork is all you need really.
Spicy Cury was always my Pot of choice. I was never a big fan of the Beef and Tomato or Chicken and Mushroom flavours. These days there are many other varieties, including the killer Bombay Bad Boy - I had one once, and a couple of years later, I think I have regrown my taste buds) - and the most recent Donner Kebab Pot Noodle, which I tried not so long ago, and then felt physically sick when I noticed the calorie content on the back. It was pretty tasty though!
They used to make Posh Noodles not so long ago, and they were the business, but I think they have cancelled those lines unfortunately.
Pot Noodles are a cheap and quick and easy snack, which are pretty satisfying, but not the healthiest of meals!
Summary: Ready in minutes, eat from the packaging, warming on a cold day - perfect unhealthy snack!
