Advantages: Cheap, Convenient, Fills a hole

Disadvantages: Grotesque!, Tastes fabricated, Smells disgusting

As I am currently living in a halls of residence at my university during the first year, most of my friends enjoy nothing better than to tuck into a pot noodle when feeling a little peckish. I myself have fallen culprit to them many times in the past as they are simply so easy and convenient to make. However these times are long gone and I am a converted man! Firstly, a quick look at one of my roommates mountain of empty pot noodle containers illustrates the fact that they are simply extremely unhealthy as the information I have provided below illustrates:

Nice 'n' Spicy flavour pot noodle nutritional information (per 87g pack):
Energy 381 kcal
Fat 14.1g
of which saturates 6.9g
Sodium 1.4g

Surely there are healthier alternatives to a pot noodle when feeling a bit peckish! Furthermore, in my experience, pot noodles do not leave your hunger fulfilled and thus you end up having to eat more of something else to feel full.

The second reason for my lack of pot noodle consuming activity these days is the fact that they simply do not taste nice. All of the flavours I have tried taste plasticky and leave a displeasant aftertaste in the mouth afterwards. Pot noodles are also extremely messy and even though I pride myself on being quite a tidy eater, I always seem to end up with half of the pot noodle down my clothes! But pot noodles dont just taste bad, my room at university almost permanently smells because its always full of my roommates empty pot noodle pot's and neither of us can be bothered to empty the bin! So if you can imagine what the smell of pot noodles do to my room, then imagine what they do to your breath - definately not a good idea if youre planning some action with the opposite sex the same day!

Eating a pot noodle simply cannot be described as eating real food. Personally I believe that one of the reasons that the percentage of overweight and obese people are increasing is the fact that nowaday
s people simply arent willing to cook a healthy and nutritious meal and instead turn to fabricated ready meals and snacks which are usually high in fat, and even higher in calories. If you are a regular buyer of pot noodles then I urge you to reconsider and choose something healthy inmstead. I have already been enjoying the rewards of my healthier lifestyle - im far more fitter, and my tennis has improved significantly. However I know that there will be some of you that eat pot noodles on a regular basis and disagree with the points I have made in this opinion - if so simply ignore it!

However, even though I have mentioned so many negative points about pot noodles, there are a few positives about them which I must mention to make this an unbiased opinion. Firstly, pot noodles are extremely good value for money. At 74p at my local shop, they are a far cheaper alternative to many other snacks on the market such as sandwiches or frozen ready meals. Pot noodles are also extremely well marketed which has no doubt led to the brands enormous success in recent years. Finally, simply the ease and convenience of pot noodles will always make them a favourite in some peoples eyes - not me however!
