There are many different quality brands of corned beef on the market which also vary vastly in price. In my experience the old adage 'you get what you pay for' certainly holds true regarding tins of corned beef. Amongst the top three brands, the other two being Fray Bentos and John West, Princes Corned Beef is reassuringly expensive at about £1.40 per tin. Slightly more salty than its rivals, with a more reddish colour to it rather than the customary light brown, it can be quite a work of art trying to open one of these tins, which you have to do by peeling off the attached church key and threading a small steel band through the eye of the key and twisting ... So many of us like to keep certain staple foods in stock, foods that we know will make either a quick and satisfying meal or an enjoyable sandwich for unexpected visitors. Corned beef is a typical example, like most canned foods it has a long shelf life and it is very versatile. I don't suppose the Heath guru`s would recommend corned beef but it has served me well when I have been pushed for time after a days work or just caught on the hop. Corned beef just has to be good quality, I agree that there are many brands on the shelves that sell for less than Princes or John Wests but the taste and texture varies dramatically. A few pence difference can ... Read the complete review

Princes Corned Beef is a really good standby to keep in your store cupboard. It costs about £1.40 for a 340g tin. I've just read the tin and it has a 5 year shelf life! Pretty good hey? I usually try to get them when there is a BOGOF offer on. It's called Corned beef because of the 'corns' of salt that were used to preserve it originally. I assume they were called corns of salt because they are the same shape as corncobs. The salt and the fat content are both fairly high, so whilst the meat is delicious it wouldn't be a good idea to eat this daily. The corned beef itself comes from Brazil. Princes' distribution centre is in ... Read the complete review

Princes Corned Beef MMM Corned beef, a lot of people tend to eat corned beef and onion...but not me.. I love Corned beef and pickle and this particular corned beef is my favourite. With the cheaper brands, which I have tried, you seem to have quite a lot of white areas, by this I mean FAT, this really puts me off corned beef and makes it look a bit sickly. The princes corned beef does have some white areas but no where near as much. The princes corned beef has that awkward device on the side which apparently helps you to open the tin. I have gave in with this method and use my electric tin opener on both ends and push the corned beef out. The ... Read the complete review

Princes are the UK`s leading importer of canned food and the third largest importer of soft drinks. Princes corned beef is made from Brazilian meat but is canned in Liverpool. You either love it or you hate it! Corned beef or Bully beef as it is also known is finely ground meat and jelly that is canned in the unmistakable oblong tin. Opening the tin is lethal! inevitably the key breaks and you are left holding the tin wondering how you are going to dig the contents out. I am a fan of corned beef, its versatile and tasty, maybe a little old fashioned too. It has always been a store cupboard stand by meal, sliced cold with salad, cold with chips, a corned ...
