Advantages: High protein, no fats makes a very healthy lunchtime meal!

Disadvantages: THE PRICE!!!!!!

I though that for my lunch today I would have a jacket potato with a nice tin of tuna chunks. I have this quite often as it seems to give me the energy to get through the afternoon until tea-time and with having this stinking cold I definitely need something to get me through thats for sure!

So I grabbed my tin of Princes Tuna in brine, which I put under the tin opener and pressed until the lid came off and carefully drained all the brine away. Now on first appearances you will see a lovely pinky colour fish sitting all in a row in tiny thick chunks. Now I usually just spoon this into a bowl and add some chopped cucumber, spring onion, tomatoes and a large dollop of Hellmans Extra Light Mayo. Give it all a good mix and then spoon over my steaming jacket potato.

This tuna comes in a small round tin that is made from recyclable steel weighing; net weight 185g with the drained weight being 130g so you do get a fair amount of tuna in here. This is produced in the Philippines and is of course Dolphin Friendly, so no Dolphins were injured when they caught the Tuna's.

Now every 100g's of Tuna has;

~~~Calories 105~~~
~~~Protein 25.0g~~~
~~~Carbs nil~~~
~~~Fat 0.5g~~~
~~~of which sats trace~~~
~~~Fibre nil~~~
~~~Sodium 0.4g~~~
So there is certainly plenty of protein and with the Jacket Potato this makes a filling but tasty lunch without being to bad for you.
What I love about these tins of Tuna is that they are so versatile, in that you can makes sandwiches with it, put it into wraps or rolls. It's great when put into a Pasta Bake, which we do on a regular basis and my son is now head chef at doing this in his own home now!!
Also eaten in with a Jacket Potato and lastly when used instead of Cornbeef when making a Hash. I know that the real thing is much tastier when steamed or cooked in foil, but at what they charge you for a fresh bit is disgraceful, so this is a great second best in my view.
The price of tinned Tuna has flown through the windows recently with it costing as much as £5.39 for a 4 pack which I think is taking the mick. Well when I popped into my Tesco's today they had 3 packs down to £1.89 so I grabbed a few for me and son in Uni. You can also buy this in spring water, which I have tried, but couldn't really notice any difference once added to other things and you can also buy this in Sunflower Oil. I haven't bought this one as it is nearly double the amount of calories per 100g and I'm having it to be healthy!.
So A well deserved 5 stars I think!!
Summary: Always worth having a couple of tins in the cupboard whether for a sandwich or hot tasty past bake!!
