Advantages: lower fat

Disadvantages: but not low enough

I personally cannot stand it when a new range of a product is released that looks so much like the original one that you accidentally buy it. It's the same with Ben N Jerry's Frozen Yoghurt, which I bought by mistake a while back. The new Pringles are almost identical looking to the old ones, and so I accidentally bought a pack of these too!

We all know and love Pringles don't we? They're curved crisps in a tube that have strong flavours and are stronger and sturdier than normal crisps. Like pretty much all crisps, they're also high in fat, which is where the new rice infusions come in.

The name makes them sound horrible really - thoughts of grains of rice fill my head, but that's not what these are about. Basically, they're made of rice flour, to make them lower in fat. They are marketted as the healthy alternative to Pringles.

Texture-wise, they are noticeably different to the original ones. First off they're thinner, and more delicate. Secondly, they have more of a grained texture. However, the taste remains the same -strong, powerful flavours in those distinct Pringle ways.

Nutritionally, I was hoping for a lot. A standard pot of Pringles is around 36% fat, so where do these come in. Sadly, they are only 24%, which makes them still a massively unhealthy product to be eating. Now don't get me wrong, it's an improvement, but low fat is considered 4.5% and under, so it's still way off that.

All in all, they're not quite as nice as the originals (I like their sturdiness), and for the minimal fat savings, I think I'll stick with those.

Summary: don't bother
