Advantages: Delicious taste...

Disadvantages: Very addictive...

Any regular readers of my reviews will be aware by now that I am a total junk-food junkie! I do love my sweeties and chocolate snacks, but on the other hand I do tend to crave all things savoury from time to time so needless to say, there are not many junk food type snacks that pass me by!

My other half brought in a few assorted snacks the other day as we had decided to have a bit of a 'chill out' day with a few movies following our return home from holiday. One of the snacks that he purchased was a tube of Pringles, which were the Sour Cream and Onion variety.

Having not had these snacks for several years, I was a bit disappointed at first at his choice of snack. I think that Pringles on the whole have been kind of forgotten about in our household over the past few years, and it certainly wouldn't have been my first choice for a snacking companion! Never one to pass up an eating opportunity though, (greedy beggar that I am) I did (somewhat reluctantly) reach for the cardboard tube of Pringles about half way through the movie to give them a bit of a sample.

What hit me first of all was the strong smell of onion that hit my nostrils as I removed the plastic lid from the tube. I mean this odour was really pongy! Not one to be put off by strongly-smelling foodstuffs, I dug my hand into the cardboard tube and removed not one but two circular shaped crisps.

Shoving these into my mouth and crunching down hard, I did think that the texture was just as I remembered... I was once again introduced to the hard, crunchy and very crispy snacks, but I didn't find them to be overly brittle or at all uncomfortable to eat... quite the opposite in fact! :-D

The next thing that struck me was the taste. I did think that these Pringles were very flavoursome snacks indeed, with lots of salty- tasting oniony flavouring! The Pringles were not at all over-powering or overly salted, but I did find that the balance of the taste was just right for my own palate. Furthermore, I found that the onion element to the flavouring complimented the sour cream flavour nicely and again, the balance was just right.

We all remember the tagline from the advertising campaign that Pringles ran a few years back. "Once you pop you can't Stop"... remember? Well I was once more reminded of the relevance of said tagline when I realised that the tube of Pringles we were eating was all but finished a mere couple of hours after it had been opened! Talk about addictive!

The nutritional information on the side of the 155g tube informs me that the Sour cream & Onion Pringles will provide me with 531 calories and 35g of fat per 100g. I can also see that the Pringles are suitable for a vegetarian diet.

There is a website for the product at www.pringles.com.

I would recommend these snacks, and am going to award them top marks. I do find that they are very addictive though, which is, to me, an obvious sign that they offer a winning combination of taste and quality. Just be warned though, once that lid has been 'popped'... well, you know the rest!!

Pringles come in a variety of flavours, such as salt and vinegar, cheese and onion, BBQ, ready salted and the like. They generally cost around £1.50 per tube - or at least, that is what my partner paid at our local grocery store - but there are regular offers on in some of the larger supermarkets where you can get them for a little cheaper. You can buy Pringles in all good grocery stores and supermarkets such as Tesco and Asda.

A top-marks savoury snack - five dooyoo stars out of five from me!

Summary: These get top marks from me! :-D

This is the one flavour of Pringles I'm not really that keen on - they're a little too creamy tasting for me.
