Advantages: Tasty, Yummy, Cheap, Packaged Well & Delicious
Disadvantages: Moreish, Calories, The Creepy Mans Face on the Packaging .
I have started craving savoury food lately. Sweet stuff just doesnt cut it. Okay so Ive still had 2 butterfly buns, 3 rich teas and a chocolate teacake today but they just didnt cut the mustard. My cravings lead me to the crisp aisle in the local Co-op t'other day. My observations went somewhat in this fashion;
Walkers Crisps - Boring, Predictable, No 'different' flavours. Pass.
Seabrook - Make my tongue tingle with the flavouring. Pass.
Doritos - I overdid the whole cheese dorito phase about a month ago so the mere sight of packaging sends me slighly nauseous. Pass.
McCoys - Too chunky and filling. Pass.
Kettle Chips - Bland and too Salty. Pass.
Pringles. Special Offer 2 for £2.50. <Perk>
Tasty - Yes
Different Flavours - Yes
Handy Sealable lid for later use - Yes.
Bonza!!!!!! Get in the basket kiddo.
I am now munching on some Sour Cream and Onion so here is my 'feast' narf, of tasty opinions.
A Quick Introduction To What Pringles Are & Background
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pringles have been about since 1967?! under the name "Pringle's Newfangled Potato Chips" and changing to "Pringles" the year after. Invented by American (who'd have guessed!) Alexander Liepa of Montgomery, Ohio. They are Potato chips where the dough is made of dehydrated cooked potatoes and water and then fried. Yum. They are available now worldwide, in different varieties including Fat Free with 33 per cent less fat in than regular Pringles!!
Packaging
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~
In a bright eyecatching green colour, which is neither bogey green or hangover wretchingly bright green. Just a fresh, funky colour. The green is an indicator of the cheesy content im sure. An upright tubular shaped package which contains approx 95 pringles (200g can) that is asthetically pleasing. Due to its shape there is no risk of the contents getting crushed or damaged in transit, plus you can easily pass the tub around and hand out to others. All the pringles are stacked one above each other in an interlocked way inside.
The Pringles logo is a man with a moustache, bow tie and dodgy hair do. His appearance and presence is one of a mystery. What he represents I do not know.
The flavour is in bold bright yellow font, with a picture of several floating pringles flying around what looks like a garlic dip. Yum. It also states the product is ~
Free From Artificial Colours
Suitable For Vegetarians
On the back of the box is a list of Ingredients in several languages plus a nutritional contents table. There are also contact details, a bar code and a bin symbol. The packaging is made in Belgium fact fans!
There is a clear plastic lid on top which fits firmly on and is easily removable. Also underneath is a foil extra cover that you pull off when you open, this ensures the item stays fresh and doesnt go soft or soggy. I hate it when that happens.
The Smell
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Woah this is apparent from the moment i tear off the foil strip. Very cheesy. And strong. And appetising. It is not overpowering in any way just a delight to my nose buds. If they exist. The Pringles do give you stinky breathe after, word of warning.
The Look
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Potato chip itself is a light beige colour with no burny bits like you get in regular crisps in the UK. They are very thin and snap easily in your mouth and are quite crunchy. They are not flat or straight but in curved shape all along the point with each opposing end turning upwards.
The Taste & Texture
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gorgeously moreish and addicitve the advert is right 'Once you pop, You cant stop'. I could get through about 5 cans of these bad boys in one sitting. The taste is creamily cheesy. The onion is not so apparent infact Im not sure I can taste it but then again my OH did ask me if id had onions the last time I had some and I saw him so they must be in there! They are a bit salty which may be offputting for non salt fans.
As soon as you pop them in your mouth your instict is to crush the suckers. They crunch and snap easily and with little effort. I never know how to eat them so just shove them in any old way. They seem to disappear so quickly! Im not sure I eat that fast?! Do I?!
Ingredient Information
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is no egg, alcohol, nut, nut oils or nut derivatives contained in Pringles. No genetically modified ingredients are used either.
With regards Gluten free/Dairy free/Vegan or Vegetarian Diets I refer you to this information page on the official Pringles Website http://www.pringles-info.co.uk/information/faq_ing redient.html
In a 25g portion serving of pringles there is 9.2g of fat so they are off the list if you are dieting.

- 06/10/06 I love Pringles. They hold themselves proudly as a chip that does not have to reduce their salt or fat content. Why Walkers, did you lose all your flavour? |
