Advantages: Quick, delicious
Disadvantages: Not so good for a whole family, might be a bit slow
Oat So Simple is a porridge oat product made by Quaker Oats.
Porridge is traditionally made by boiling oats with water or milk [or a combination of the two] to produce a meal - one that is usually eaten for breakfast.
Unfortunately, this can be a little time-consuming, and so Quaker Oats have come up with their faster cooking version. Oat So Simple is product where the oats are pre-packed in 27g portions in individual sachets. You empty the contents of the sachet into a microwavable bowl and add 180ml of milk. The clever bit is that the now empty sachet is the right size to contain 180ml of liquid, and so can be used as a measure, thereby saving on washing up.
The bowl is then paced in a microwave and cooked for 2 ½ minutes, and your breakfast is ready. I prefer it with brown sugar sprinkled on top: after a minute or so, the sugar melts into the porridge to produce a nice, sugary goo - delicious!!
Because the sachet is flexible, it isn't an exact way of measuring [the volume will depend on how round you make the opening: clearly, the less you open it, the less it will hold - now you know why you paid attention at Maths at school], so the consistency of the final product can vary slightly. I prefer it on the runny side, so tend to be generous on the milk front.
Although it's quick to make a single portion, to do this for a family would be laborious, so then a saucepan of traditional porridge might be a better bet.
A portion contains 2.5g of fibre, 1.1g of which is soluble.
There are also flavoured varieties, but I prefer the original. The flavoured varieties come in packs of 8 [as opposed to 10 for original], so work out more expensive.

Summary: Great breakfast when it's cold
