Advantages: Just about edible, not too bad an aftertaste

Disadvantages: Not really a pleasant taste

---Intro---
Continuing my annoying habit of reviewing food whilst at work and particularly rice cakes, today I'm going to be reviewing the Sack a Jacks Prawn Cocktail flavour. This 26g bag was picked up at Tesco the other month in a 3 for £1.20 offer, and would last for another 7 months if I wasn't going to eat them now!

---Snack a Jacks---
Snack a Jacks are a range of rice cake snacks made by Quaker - visit www.snackajacks.co.uk to find out more about the range.

---The packaging---
The packet is predominantly pink, you can't miss it - since pink is usually the colour for prawn cocktail flavoured snacks, this isn't a surprise. There's a picture of the snacks on the pack, and then there's all of the nutritional info. Snack a Jacks are doing this competition thing (it seems to be a permanent thing) where they "turn must-haves into can-haves" and the 'must-have' on my packet is "Shoes from Aldo" (never heard of Aldo).

---The nutritional info---
The packet boasts that it contains 8% fat, which is more than some of the other flavours. My packet contains 106 calories, 0.7g sugars, 2g fat (0.2g saturates) and 0.4g salt. The main ingredients are Rice, maize (with germ removed) and prawn cocktail flavour which consists of lots of things (including lactose from milk, so check if you have intolerances). They are suitable for Coeliacs and Vegetarians. A full list of ingredients can be found here - http://www.snackajacks.co.uk/products/snacks-prawn -cocktail.aspx

---The eating experience---
It's snack time again (10am)...on opening the packet I get a whiff of prawn cocktail flavour - a good start! The 1.5 inch diameter rice snacks are yellowy orange in colour.

First rice cake and the taste isn't bad, quite mild but definitely prawn cocktail. Second one, and I'm not actually so sure. It's got a bit of a strange aftertaste. In fact it's all a bit weird tasting.

I absolutely love Skips, and quite enjoy Walkers Prawn Cocktail flavoured crisps, but these don't really taste like that at all. They have a certain tang when my tongue hits the rice cake, but then I would say that more than anything the taste is a bit dirty. Obviously they don't actually taste of prawns or indeed prawn cocktail, and although they do taste a bit like prawn cocktail flavoured crisps, they are somehow different.

Unlike other snack a jacks I've had, a lot of these seem to be broken. Most likely this is due to me, but perhaps the prawn cocktail flavour is more breakable. Since I'm unlikely to be buying these again there is no way of knowing!

---Final Comments---

There were approximately 16 snacks in my pack (some quite broken though) and I managed to make my way through the pack although it took a while as I was interrupted by the phone. Thankfully they haven't left much of an aftertaste, or much of a mess on my fingers or desk at work.

I can't say I really enjoyed the eating experience and will not be eating these again out of choice. If I want something prawn cocktail flavoured I'll stick to a packet of Skips. If I want a rice cake I'll stick with one of the flavours I prefer like the Cream and Chive flavour Snack a Jacks!

Summary: Buy a packet of Skips instead!
