Advantages: Yummy flavour, healthy

Disadvantages: Too strong for some

A healthy snack.

We all know that rice cakes are considered a healthy snack, well now you can get them in bite sized, snack packets instead of big disc like cakes they used to come in.

Snack a Jacks produce a range of rice cakes in crisp like packets in a variety of different flavours. My favourite flavour has to be their salt and vinegar variety which come in a blue crisp packet. I am always looking for a healthier alternative to classic crisps but something that still offers that crisp type flavour/experience and in these I think I have found that.

Basically they are round/rice cake style snacks with a salt and vinegar flavour. The ingredients include rice and maize. Each piece is quite bobbly/uneven looking as the rice and corn is blended together but that makes them quite crunchy and fun to eat. The salt and vinegar flavour is very strong and quite tangy so if you don't like them too strong then this product is probably not for you but that is what I enjoy about them. In fact all the other flavours are covered quite well to so you are guaranteed a bold, tasty flavour, whatever variety you choose. They are definitely not bland. I know some people find rice cakes quite bland but because these have a flavour then they do make up for the maize type taste. They do have an aftertaste of rice and maize which is different to a crisp aftertaste but I find it quite pleasant.

The other flavours include barbeque, caramel, cheese, prawn cocktail and sour cream and chive.

In a 30g bag I would say you probably get about 30 little rice cakes so quite a good amount and enough to fill you up, more than regular crisps. A 30g bag costs approximately 39p in Sainsburys, so the same as regular crisps but you can buy them in bumper packs which is nice.

Like I've said above the rice cakes are somewhat of a healthy alternative to regular crisps. The great thing about these in my mind is that each bag contains only 7% fat and only 105 calories so quite good for a light snack.

Summary: Salt and Vinegar Snack a Jacks Rice Cakes

I used to like these until I wrote a review, read the ingredients and found they contain MSG!
