Advantages: Kids love them, Small kids and big kids

Disadvantages: Very sweet

I noticed these on special offer at my local Asda a few days ago for £1.00 for a 450g box (normal price £1.78). I would not normally buy this cereal as I am fortunate enough that my daughter prefers Weetabix or Rice Krispies (without sugar) and even at that I normally buy Asda own brand because of the prices. But I thought this was a good offer and decided to buy them.

***The packaging***

The Box is cardboard and is recyclable, inside the box is a thin plastic bag that is completely sealed to keep in the freshness. This one is a promotional box so it differs from the normal box but only slightly, the main colours are the same. The box is mainly a bright blue with a bright yellow honeycomb which is the background for the large red lettering of Sugar Puffs and in smaller red letters it says With Honey Goodness. There is a picture of the honey monster who is splashing plenty of milk over a bowl of the cereal.

***A bit of history about Sugar Puffs***

Well sugar puff were invented in 1954, well actually puffed wheat was already in existence since the 30's but in 1954 someone decided they would be much yummier if they added a coating of honey and thus they were born. Sugar puffs were produced by Quaker but in 2006 Sugar Puffs were acquired by Big Bear and have now called the Company Honey Monster Foods. The reason I know this is that I had noticed when I was looking at the box for details to write about them, I noticed that it did not have Quaker on the top corner or in fact anywhere else on the box, so I look up the website (details were on the box) at www.honeymonster.co.uk.

***The Product***

There is not much to say really, they are small puffs of wheat coated in honey and brown sugar. They are crunchy at first but they will soften when you add the milk. This box contains 15 servings

Each 30g serving contains
114 kcals
1.6g protein
10.6g of sugars
0.5g of fat
0.1g saturated fat
1.1g fibre
Trace of salt

***My Opinion***

Well, I have not had these for a long while, so when I had a bowl for breakfast yesterday, it took me back to my childhood as it was a favourite back then, but I guess you just outgrow some things. I am glad to say they tasted mostly as I remembered. I prefer to let them soak up the milk first so they are more chewy than crunchy. The only thing I am not so keen on is that they are a lot sweeter than I remember. I am glad I bought them, and I would buy them again if they are on a good offer, they make a nice change and are quite nice as a snack later on. I would recommend these but not all the time unless you have a really sweet tooth.

Summary: quite nice, but sweet
