For Christmas, my sister bought me a 1.2kg tin of Quality Street, saying 'Because every home should have one at Christmas!' Fair enough, but since I live on my own, over a month after Christmas, and I am still working my way through them! I'm sure you will have all come across Quality Street at some point. They are basically an assortment of chocolates, that normally turn up at birthdays, Christmases or other occasions that warrant a box of chocolates! The brand has been established since 1936 and remains a firm favourite with many households. ~The Sweets~ There are twelve different varieties of sweet in a tin/box... ~Coconut ... My mother has always bought my sister and me a tin of Quality Street for Christmas for as long as I can remember on the run up to Christmas. She did it when we both lived at home and has continued to do so since we got married. The difference being that we now have to share with our husbands! When her granddaughter came along (my niece) she was added to the list too. Originally it was a tin of Cadbury's Roses or Nestle's Quality Street that adorned the sideboard in most houses over the festive season. Competition came recently with the introduction of Celebrations by Mars and Heroes by Cadburys. Christmas gone, my 12 year old niece decided to ditch the Quality Street in ... Quality Street...what a British Icon eh? Designed and launched in 1936, Quality Street has been a favourite Christmas gift for families and offices all over the country. Rumoured to have been named after a play by J.M. Barrie, the brand has undergone serious makeovers over the years in an attempt to stay fresh and current. In 1998 Nestle bought out Rowntrees and have owned the Quality Street brand ever since. Milk Chocolate Hazelnut (the 'Purple One') Top of the list for many people, the shape comes from the original filling, as it used to contain a brazilnut, not a hazelnut. I think this chocolate is one of my favourites, the ... Read the complete review

Quality Street were named after a JM Barrie claim, and when you open one of their tins, you get the feeling they're still stuck in the last century somewhere. First of all, their packaging is just horrible. It's lurid purple, with a star burst emerging from the logo and sweets scattered around the tin. The look is deeply old fashioned - this is not going to win you any design cred on your shelf. The selection of chocolates is highly unimaginative, from the usual toffees (three kinds) and fudge, to strawberry creams and caramels. There's the usual horrible coconut one, but they've now done away with the perenially unpopular coffee cream. Nicest ... Read the complete review

Aaaaah, Good old Quality Street. The staple of every Christmas and Family get together since the age of the dinosaurs. I'm fairly sure that 99% of you reading this will have come across this wonderful selection of colourfully wrapped chocolate at some point. The sweets are made by Nestle and come in a variety of packaging from handy cardboard boxes (480g) to the grander metal tin (an impressive 1.1kg). It's always funny to look into a near to death tin and see a sea of one colour as through a meticulous selection process the runt of the litter is exposed, for me it's the toffee penny, it's really really chewy and not that ...
