Advantages: tasty and convenient

Disadvantages: a bit soggy, and nowhere near big enough!

I've been a vegetarian for quite a long time now, and although the range of ready meals and convenience foods available for us non-meat eaters has improved vastly over the past couple of decades, there still isn't much out there that doesn't try and pretend to be meat. Purists may find this annoying, or argue that vegetarians who eat 'fake meat' aren't really proper veggies at all, but I just tend to eat what I enjoy and not worry about the philosophy of it all too much!

I have to admit, I do really like my own homemade cottage-style pie made with all 'proper' veggie ingredients (including lentils, sorry guys but I actually do really like them!), but I just don't have time to make it that often these days.

My partner is a meat eater, so often he'll have a 'real' frozen cottage pie with some steamed veg, and I'll have one of these from Quorn.

First of all, the good points about this particular pie - it is quite tasty, as the Quorn and veggies are smothered in a nice thick, rich gravy. It's also really convenient - just pop in the oven from chilled or frozen, and sort your veg out while it's cooking.

Less good points - well first of all it's a little bit soggy for my tastes and, more importantly, it's FAR too small. Or maybe I'm just a greedy pig? Anyway, I suppose you could always have two, and it's not all that expensive so that is a viable option for the very hungry amongst us!

In short, if you don't have time to cook from scratch and fancy a veggie cottage pie, this is pretty tasty and worth a try. If you do have more time (and I keep meaning to do this!), it might be better to get yourself a bag of Quorn mince and some spuds and make your own, more filling, pie.

Summary: one of the better veggie cottage pies available, but you might need two!
