Now Im not a vegetarian. Never have been and to be honest I doubt I ever will be but just lately Ive been trying out loads of these Quorn products because they have been on sale in one of the local supermarkets. I really fancied pie & chips from the chippy the other night but I didnt want to actually go to the chip shop to get it because the man who serves there freaks me out so I decided to try and make my meal at home using whatever the hell I could find. And these Quorn Mince & Onion Pies were what I found so I decided to cook one pie with some chips and hope these pies tasted as good as the proper meaty one I could have got from the chippy. Overall Ive been .. Read the complete review

I have been a vegetarian for over 15 years now and in that time have tried a lot of products from a very wide variety. I have sampled supermarket own brands (Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys etc) as well as Specific vegetarian brands like Linda McCartney and Quorn. I have got some favorite products, which I will always keep in my freezer, some which I will never buy again and those which I will buy occassionally. Quorn deep filled Mince and Onion pies are one of the ones I will still buy occassionally. My boyfriend picked these up when he was doing the weekly food shop last month. I'm vegetarian (he is not!) and although I do like Quorn products, this is not something I would have chosen myself, simply because I don't like the idea of a product that looks like meat! However I thought I would give them a try seeing as they appeared in the freezer! You get 4 pies in the box, each in a little foil container. The cooking instructions state they take 30 minutes at 200 oC, until the pastry is well risen. Each pie contains 361 calories and 19.9g of fat, which makes them a treat for me rather than an every day dinner. The pastry was crisp and flaky, ... Read the complete review

If you like other Quorn products, such as the cottage pie then these pies, which come in a pack of 4 are frozen, and take about 40-45 minutes to cook from frozen to get the puff pastry top golden brown. Make sure you do wait until the top is fully browned as the bottom is otherwise rather soggy. The majority of the taste is in the onion gravy which doesn't overpower the rest of the food on your plate, merely complementing it and there is enough filling in the pies to spill out nicely when you cut into the pastry. I did have a problem with one box in that two of the pies had no filling, however when I contacted the manufacters they immediately ... Read the complete review
