Advantages: Yummy Meat Tasting Pies, Less Fat & Calories Than An Ordinary Pie.

Disadvantages: The Slightly Chewier Meat.

Now Im not a vegetarian. Never have been and to be honest I doubt I ever will be but just lately Ive been trying out loads of these Quorn products because they have been on sale in one of the local supermarkets. I really fancied pie & chips from the chippy the other night but I didnt want to actually go to the chip shop to get it because the man who serves there freaks me out so I decided to try and make my meal at home using whatever the hell I could find. And these Quorn Mince & Onion Pies were what I found so I decided to cook one pie with some chips and hope these pies tasted as good as the proper meaty one I could have got from the chippy. Overall Ive been pretty impressed with every Quorn product Ive tried so I was really hoping this would taste just as good because I think this actually has less calories and fat than an ordinary meat pie and if it tasted nice I was going to use this as a subsitute when I start my diet again. Luckily I wasnt let down.

Anyway the important part is the taste right? And if these didnt taste like a proper meat pie then I would have been left feeling really disappointed and wishing Id gone up the chippy LOL. These actually surprised me because they actually taste like meat. I honestly cannot figure out how Quorn manage to make mushrooms taste like minced beef! The pasty is lovely and flaky like proper pies should be in my opinion and it has that really buttery taste which works really well with the filling.

Now shockingly there is actually a lot of filling in these pies and loads of gravy. As soon as you put your fork into the pie all the filling and gravy starts to ooze out and it just looks and smells really great. Best of all everything looks like a normal meaty pie at the moment. As I said this actually does taste like meat exactly like a pie you would get from the chippy. The only slight difference is that the "meat" in this pie is a bit chewier/gristlier but I doubt you would really notice that if you were just eating the whole pie and not picking at the seperate bits like I was. Now because of the gravy that can make the pastry at the bottom go a bit soggy but to be honest I would rather it had loads of filling rather than a really dry pie.

Overall this is a really great product in my opinion and even though Im not a vegetarian I will definately be eating these again. So these pies are great for both veggies & meat eaters alike because they do taste a lot like meat pies but I believe they have less calories and fat. So really I think these are a winner + they are yummy.

I highly recommend these to everyone as I think you will love them as much as I did. A yummy pie and I didnt even have to leave the house!
