Advantages: Tasty, versatile
Disadvantages: None.
This is what vegetarians have been waiting for! I have been veggie for about 10 years now, and I am fed up with being given vegetable lasagne and veggie burgers. Although I prefer looking at animals in fields as opposed to eating them, I do like the taste of meat. Yes, I miss Kentucky Fried Chicken, turkey, ham, chinese roast pork (yum). I'm not opposed to people eating meat, I am opposed to meateaters thinking that all veggies like health food, oh and vegetables! This has also been the assumption by food manufacturers...until Quorn appeared. Quorn is mushroom in origin and now comes in a variety of forms such as pieces, mince, fillets, roasts and ready meals. It has 5% fat, and is an excellent alternative to meat as it actually tastes and has a texture similar to meat. My favourite Quorn product is Quorn Roast. It comes in a fat sausage shape wrapped in cellophane and all you have to do is prick it a few time and bung it in the oven. Easy! It takes about 45 minutes to cook, but don't overcook it or it will be very dry. Once it's cooked you just take off the wrapper and slice it. It tastes like roast chicken and has a similar texture to roast chicken, although slightly blander. It's great with gravy, roast potatoes and vegetables. It's also really versatile as you can chop it up and put it into stir frys, casseroles, stews, sandwiches..anything! I think it is delicious and I have even tested it out on my meat eating friends who also like it. It's so low in fat that you can put something naughty with it like buttery mashed potatoes. So, you don't have to be a veggie to enjoy it. It's worth giving a try. It also keeps for about 4 days in the fridge, you just slice it up when you want some. Cover with clingfilm so it doesnt dry out.

- 18/01/02 We really like this too. I've been a vegetarian since 1987 & my 4 kids since birth. My partner eats meat, but he likes this too. |

- 14/09/01 Very interesting op. The test is always, in my mind, whether someone would eat the product even if they weren't vegetarian. |
