Advantages: Nice when dressed up with sauces etc, fairly cheap and very healthy
Disadvantages: Not as nice as the quorn beef burgers
These southern style burgers from the Quorn range are supposed to taste like a chicken burger coated in breadcrumbs. They cost around £1.49 for a pack of 4 in most supermarkets and come frozen rather than fresh. I do think they are a good product but they need jazzing up a bit in my opinion to make them tasty, on their own they are a little bland.
Taking around 20 minutes to cook in the oven from frozen, they can be grilled or fried but we always just put them on a baking sheet and oven bake as it seems to work well and is less messy. Each burger contains 119 calories and 0.8g of fat so they are a much healthier and lower fat option than a standard chicken burger. This equates to 2 weight watchers points per burger which makes them a good option if you are following the plan.
I tend to serve them in toasted sesame buns with plenty of tomato ketchup and salad on. Personally I do not think these go well with cheese but my veggie husband usually does have cheese on his. I did try one without the ketchup the first time I had these (I am not a big fan of ketchup) but I found the burger to be both dry and pretty bland when eaten like this. They do not have the natural moisture you would find in a real chicken burger unfortunately and they do need some accessorizing, so to speak!
When served with ketchup and in a bun etc they are pretty good and the texture is not bad in fooling you that it could be real meat. Personally I do think that the beef style burgers from the Quorn range are better than these and taste nicer, but these do a good job of keeping my husband happy and make a nice change from time to time.
Not a bad product from the Quorn range but not one of my favourites either.
Summary: A fairly good product and nice when eaten with accompaniments.
