Advantages: lovely stuff
Disadvantages: none
I fancied something sweet as we drove along the motorway, so I opened a 300g bag of RJ'S natural licorice the raspberry soft eating variety. I can not remember how mush this cost when we bought it at a tourist shop in Scotland but on line it costs £2.75p. http://www.scottishsweets.co.uk/Products.asp?Categ oryName=Licorice.
Packaged in a thick brown paper bag that has a wide black band and thinner red band of colour at the top end of it .The logo and words natural licorice written on the front. There is also an illustration of a couple of pieces of red licorice .Open this up and you will find about 21cylindrical sticks/logs of red licorice about 4.1/2 cm long about 1 cm thick. It is a smooth texture
Now eat it slowly just take little bites of this licorice. This is a firm soft rigid stick/log of licorice, take a bite and chew it gently the taste is superb sweet taste a mild flavour of raspberries . There is no distinct licorice flavor although I think I get a hint of it underlying the raspberry.
The taste of this raspberry licorice is not strong just pleasant. The taste does linger in the mouth a while after the sweet has been swallowed.
This red raspberry licorice was very nice I shall buy them again and be tempted to try their other flavours too.
I discover you can buy this red raspberry licorice wrapped as a single log weighing 40g this is equal to 3 of the pieces of my bag.
I imagine a large licorice log is made and cut into smaller pieces.
It is the individual 40g logs in the picture of the product .
There are 349kcal per 100g, 37.7g sugar and 1.7 g fat per 100g too. 3 pieces of this licorice from the 300g bag weigh approx 40g.
Wheat is used in the recipe so not suitable for those with a wheat allergy. I can not see milk or egg in the ingredients do check the back of the pack before eating if you have an allergy to these products as I may have missed it.
RJ's is a New Zealand company if you wish further info goes to thier web site http://www.rjslicorice.co.nz/

- 11/07/08 Tastes great but did you also know that RJ's is made with Rice Bran Oil, which is high in Vitamin E, antioxidants and Omega 3 (all naturally occurring)? Rice Bran Oil has also been shown to reduce harmful cholesterol levels, but doesn't impair good cholesterol.
Bit healthier than your average snack! |
