Advantages: Suitable for vegetarians and vegans, healthy, not too expensive and fairly easy to find in shops.

Disadvantages: A little dry and bland on their own.

These sage and onion slices are part of the Redwood Food Company's Vegi-Deli range.
They are soya based fake 'meat' slices and are suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
They don't contain any meat, egg, dairy, cholesterol, hydrogenated fat, artificial colours or flavourings and are GMO free too.

They usually cost between 99p and £1.50 and can be bought from some health food shops, online or from some supermarkets. I'm sure I've bought them from Morrisons before.

The taste reminds me of those turkey and stuffing slices you can buy on the deli counter but it's been so long since I ate meat I can't tell you how much they taste like the real thing - I've fed them to meat-eaters who didn't complain though!

If you just ate them on their own then they would seem a little dry and bland but they go well in sandwiches and salads, and are apparently suitable for home freezing although I've never tried that myself.

I don't think I could buy and eat these every week as I'd get bored of them but they do make a nice change to the usual sandwich fillings.

I'm always pleased to see reviews on veggie products and I haven't tried these. Will keep a look out for them, cheese or salad sandwiches get a bit dull Don't they?
