Advantages: A bit of variety is good
Disadvantages: coffee and orange flavours don't appeal to everyone
For anyone that reads my reviews regularly you probably know by now that I am somewhat of a chocoholic, so here goes yet another Chocolate review.
I am reviewing the smallest size bag of Revels (35g). Revels are made by Mars. They are also available in larger packs and are all widely available from supermarkets, confectioners and many more.
I bought these from my local Tesco Express, they were on an offer of buy 2 for 70p (normally about 50p each), so I did. A bag for me and a bag for my daughter. Each bag had 18 pieces in it. From noting what was in both bags I think that there is no set way to make up the 18, so it really is just your luck what variations you get. There are 6 chocolates available. They are: Coffee Cream, Orange Cream, Toffee, Raisin, Malteser and Chocolate. The chocolate ones are like minstrels but without the hard sugar shell. The coffee Cream is one of those sweets you either love it or hate it, I love it! It's a smallish round ball with a coffee flavoured fondant centre which is a light pale brown colour and is coated in chocolate. It's the same size and shape as the Orange cream, the only difference is that the fondant centre is slightly more orange in colour. The Toffee one is covered in chocolate and is a slightly different in shape, it it a little more oblong. Raisin is a little smaller unless you get 2 stuck together, they are also covered in chocolate, they tend to be the strangest shapes in the bag. Malteser is the largest round ball. Then you have the Chocolate one. This one is shaped like a disk and is just the delicious chocolate you get from Mars.
There are pictures on the back of the bag showing what each one is like so you should be able to differentiate between them all. I think the pictures are a bit deceiving though as it clearly shows you that they are all different in size and shape, but they are not. In my experience the coffee and orange both look exactly the same from the outside, and unfortunately for me I like the coffee but not the orange.
Nutritional Information (35g)
168 kcals
1.8g protein
23.6g carbohydrate
7.4g fat
***My Opinion***
168 calories for a chocolate treat is not so bad, The fact that it feels like your having more because of all the different flavours. I like all the flavours but am not as keen on the Orange ones. I think that they are quite filling, because the fondant fillings in particular are very sweet and sickly if you end up getting too many of these in your bag. These would not be my first choice of sweet, but I will buy them again, it's good to have this as a choice when you don't know what sweet you want.
Summary: A chocolate treat from Mars but with less calories than a Mars Bar
