Advantages: tastier than I expected
Disadvantages: none
What drew me towards this jam I will never know as to be quite honest I'm not a fan of blackcurrants! Maybe it was the fact they didn't have any strawberry or cherry flavour (mmm...) or that it was a little 27g jar at only 39p I just don't know..All I know is I bought it and have just had some of toast so here's my thoughts..
The company~
Robertsons are probably one of the leaders of the market when it comes to jams. The company was founded way back in 1864 and are remembered for using the 'Golliwog' characters on their jars dating back to the early 1900's (remember the pin badges you could collect with the tokens? Makes me feel old writing that now!)
The taste~
I think the reason I don't opt for blackcurrant flavour jams is the thought of the seeds getting stuck between my teeth! Athough this did seem to have a lot of seeds I found they weren't a problem luckily. The taste itself was actually very nice- very rich and just bordering on slightly tangy but not enough to pull a face at! There was also several large pieces of blackcurrants which made it look more appealing too.
The product~
Robertsons Blackcurrant jam contains:
Energy 206kj/48cal
Protein 0.1g
Carbohydrate 12.0g
of which sugars 12.0g
Fat trace
of which are saturates 0.0g
Fibre 0.4g
Sodium 0.01g
The jam is prepared with 35g of fruit per 100g and the total content is 63g per 100g so don't over do it if you are on any kind of diet!
For more information email robertsons@rhm.co.uk or visit www.robertsons.co.uk
The packaging~
The jam comes in a small see through glass jar with a black lid and has 'Robertsons' and an image of blackcurrants going round the middle.
The cost~
This will vary as it says on the jar 'special price 69p' but I paid 39p when on offer so will vary from store to store.
Summary: would buy again
