... finally dispensed with the trademark 'gollys' on the jar. For many years they still depicted them even though the tide of politically correct opinion was against them. As a child, I also indulged in the poitically incorrect activity of saving labels as my nan used to collect the pin brooches for me and I remember laying them all out to see which one we needed to collect next. I recall that my nan liked the golfer 'golly' because it was her favourite sport. I can't really remember the rest of the designs. You could also...more

Premium Review Robertson's Silver Shred: Bits - An Aquired Taste? (708 words)

Breakfast is my most favourite meal of the day. This is why it is worth having the most delicious food you can get (hopefully with some healthy stuff too). A good marmalade on a slice of toast is hard to beat. Silver Shred has always been a breakfast favourite of mine. My taste buds seem to zone in and out of flavours; one week I'll want a strong orange marmalade, another I'll yearn for the clean bright citrus taste of a lemon or a lime marmalade. Over the years I have eaten quite a lot of this! The Price ----------- From Tesco, a 454g jar of this will cost you £1.29. This certainly does not make it the cheapest option of ...  Read the complete review

The other day my Mum made a really welcome mistake. In charge of the weekly shopping she always gets me marmalade but in a hurry she picked this up and when I went to use it I was absolutely gutted! I'm such a fan of orange marmalade on toast that when I saw this I felt like tantruming big time lol! I stopped myself though, sulked a bit and slapped it on hotly buttered toast not too happy about it at all! The Packaging.... As far as I'm aware this only comes on one size (though don't quote me on that!). The size I have in front of me is 454g jar (costing 80p in Asda) and is glass and see through with a white and black twist on/off lid to the top of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Robertson's Silver Shred: Tangy and sweet marmalade for breakfast (311 words)

Robertsons as we know have been going since the year dot, so it is no surprise that they keep turning out superb jams and marmalades and other products. This Silver Shred lemon marmalade should be given a gold star as it is the most tangy lemony marmalde I have ever tasted. It is a well known brand name and doesn't dissapoint in flavour or texture in my view very much underrated. Like I said before a strong lemon taste is found in this jar amongst the jelly like consistancy of the marmalade a good dollop of shreds, finely shredded bits of lemon peel which give the whole thing a bite. Slightly tangy, but not rip your head off tangy, just right in fact ...  Read the complete review
