Advantages: Contain real fruit juice, no artificial colours/flavourings.
Disadvantages: Too much lemon, not enough blackcurrant!
I'm not much of an ice-cream or ice lolly lover, but do partake frivolously on the odd occasion we get some warmer weather. Hence the purchase of some fruit pastille ice lollies recently...
I have had these before, so they weren't exactly new to me, but their purchase is few & far between & I tend to forget in between times just how refreshing they are...
Rowntrees fruit pastille lollies are of the typical format - a fruit flavoured ice treat on a wooden stick. These particular lollies contain 25% fruit juice & no artificial colours or flavours, which is quite a rarity for fruit flavoured products. There are 5 flavours in total - each has it's own separate layer on the stick. Looking at a F.P. lolly, the flavours appear to be in 5 equal portions, but as you bite into one, you soon realise that the flavours are simply 'layered over' each other, with the bottom section comprising most of the lolly, & the other 4 flavours layered in ever-decreasing amounts over the top.
This is where my disappointment comes in with this product - blackcurrant is my favourite flavour (& is probably most popular with most people), but constitutes the smallest amount. Other flavours are: orange, pineapple, lemon & raspberry (with lemon being the most abundant).
As I said previously, these lollies score highly in terms of refreshment on a hot day (yes, I know...what hot days?!). It's nice that the flavour is not just limited to one, but instead you get an array of flavours from one snack!
Each lolly is 65ml & contains 61 calories, 14.6% sugar, & 0% fat. Perhaps not the healthiest, but as I say at least they don't contain any artificial nasties.
The lollies are packaged in plastic wrappers, which are very easy to remove without being stuck to the lolly. They are sold in boxes of 4 & are currently reduced from £1.99 to £1 at Tesco (price correct @ July 09). Much cheaper than buying individual ice lollies.
Summary: Refreshing.
