Rowntrees Fruit Gums

Description: Manufacturer: Rowntrees / Type: Sweets

... contain 81.1g of carbohydrates per 100g, but the website says 81.3g! Hardly earth-shaking, but odd nevertheless. The packaging of the tube is a traditional two-layer affair, with the brightly-coloured outer "waxed paper" wrapped around an inner layer of silver foil, just as is seen on a packet of Polos (another Nestlé product). The bigger packs have just the plastic bag, with no inner wrappers at all, but the sweets are actually in fruit shapes, rather than the simple round shapes you find in the tubes. The na...more

Premium Review Rowntrees Fruit Gums: Don't forget the Fruit Gums, mum (605 words)
by - written on 05/11/09 (Very useful, 62 readings)

Rowntrees is one of the best known and longest standing brands in the confectionery marketplace. After a rather confused few years following the company's takeover by Nestlé a couple of decades ago, it now seems to have settled down to become "the sweet brand", while Nestlé itself is "the chocolate brand". This means that Fruit Gums, themselves an extremely venerable product (launched in 1893!), are back where they belong: under the Rowntrees name. Fruit Gums are aimed at children, at least as far as modern advertising legislation allows them to be. You can see this from the note on the bright yellow packaging that one standard 48-gram tube ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Suck Them, Don't Chew! (544 words)

I have always been quite a big fan of Rowntree's sweets, but I had actually never tried Fruit Gums before. So while I was out today, I popped into my local newsagents and decided that I would buy myself some to try. Fruit Gums come in either a 48g green tube or a 205g yellow "sharing" bag. My greediness took over, and I bought the bigger bag. Upon opening the bag up, I noticed that you get quite alot of sweets inside which is always a good thing. There are five different flavours of Fruit Gums in total which are orange, blackcurrant, strawberry, lemon and lime. The sweets are shaped just like the actual fruits, which is a nice touch. The first ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Mind your fillings! (221 words)

Containing no artificial colours or flavours and real fruit juice Rowntrees Fruit Gums even sound healthy but let's not get carried away, they are after all just sweets! Very tasty sweets mind you, and I can remember having these as a kid in the 70s but I think they've been around for way longer than that so they've stood the test of time too! The sweets themselves are fairly hard, fruity sweets. The flavours are quite strong but pleasantly so. They do however really, really stick to your teeth and you run the risk of losing a filling everytime you eat one. After you've eaten some fruit gums you'll be pulling little bits of residue off your teeth with your ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Rowntrees Fruit Gums: Fruit Gums: not as fruity as I would've liked (371 words)
by - written on 23/06/09 (Very useful, 41 readings)

In my opinion Fruit Gums is probably one of the best sub-brands of Maynards. Unlike the other Rowntrees sweets (fruit pastilles and wine gums mainly), Wine Gums will actually last more than 5 minutes. If you haven't had Fruit Gums before, they are like Wine Gums except quite a bit chewier and harder. If you haven't had Wine Gums before, they are basically round gums with fruity tastes to them. Taste On the whole, the taste is not bad. In my opinion it isn't really that strong or vivid. I mean they are called FRUIT Gums, but the fruity bit doesn't come through that much. Don't get me wrong, they still taste not bad, although they could be better. ...  Read the complete review
