Advantages: Very little calories.

Disadvantages: bland taste.

In a desperate attempt to get back into my size 10's after having Jasmine i have resorted to that awful thing called a diet. I lasted a few weeks and it did work but all to soon i got bored of calorie counting and started munching on cakes and chocolate. My main problem is that i'm a bored housewife and i tend to eat when i'm bored so I've resorted to a new tactic. Ryvita.

Instead of munching a cake or a biscuit i've been munching on these ryvita slices and its working!

What are they?

Ryvita is made from wholemeal rye, that's it! The only other thing is salt.
Each slice is about 2 inches by 4 inches and is a medium brown clour. The surface is very uneven and dimpled.

Taste

Well, what can i say. Its incredibly dry to eat on its own (which i do) and pretty bland. Imagine branflakes minus any sweetness. Of course the idea is that you put some form of topping on them. Despite the dryness i actually quite enjoy them dry with a glass of milk but i do also spread some butter on which gives them a nice buttery taste. I've tried jam which was ok but if i want to treat myself then soft speadable cheese and chive makes a world of difference. You can eat then sweet or savoury with salad and mayo or dribble a little honey over them. Its really up to you.

The important stuff.

I find them a great alternitive to a sandwich as bread has about 97 calories per slice but each ryvita slice only has 28 calories and 0.1 fat.

less than 2% fat.

So a very healthy and low calorie option indeed.

They are cholestoral free and contain no artificial colours or preservatives and are made with only natural ingredients. Suitable for veggies too. However the packet does warn of sesame seed traces so they may not be suitable for people with nut allergies.

Packaging

Very simple, the packet is a rectangular shape containing 250 grams, thats about 26 slices. Its white and very pale blue with red writing.
Because its paper its very easy to open but harder to shut and make air tight.

At the moment the packet is offering an offer of a tin. Collect 3 tokens and £3.49 and you will receive a ryvita tin to put your ryvita's in. I feel this is a bit of a rip off as you could buy a much nicer tin for cheaper than that, even a plastic tub will do. Each packet has one token and form to get you tin.

It also promotes Ryvita mini's which are just ryvita made smaller with different flavours.

Cost.

Very cheap, at my local they are only 61p a packet but are pretty much available anywhere.

Overall.

Despite the fact they dont taste like chocolate and cakes i actually really like these. Of course i'd much rather eat something else but because of the low calories i always opt for a few slices of these instead of crisps or sandwiches. I dont think they are for everybody because of the blandness but with a few toppings you might actually like one even if your not on a diet.

Since i've been snacking of these i'm losing about 4lbs a week so i'm doing something right! Well worth a go if your trying to get rid of Christmas Calories!
