Advantages: Tasty variation of the cardboardy Ryvita
Disadvantages: Still Ryvita
Ok let me point out right from the start, that I am not a big Ryvita fan. They are something I buy every now and then, usually when I am trying to lose weight and cut down on the amount of bread that I am eating. I do think that Ryvita tastes and have the texture of cardboard and I simply didn't really enjoy the whole experience of eating it.
Anyhow, I spotted a good friend of mine munching on these - the Pumpkin Seeds & Oats variety, and as she like me wasn't really a Ryvita girl, I asked her what on earth she was doing. Since having children I think food has become more important in my life, I no longer have the wild nights out to look forward too and instead meal times have become the thing that I look forward to the most (yes really it is tragic I know) Anyway to cut a long story, although I do wish to lose weight, I do not wish to sacrifice tasty meals, and I knew my friend shared this outlook. She claimed that this variety of Ryvita were actually pretty damn good and were quite tasty and moreish.
Still not really convinced, I decided to give them a go. When shopping in Tesco, I found them easily enough and was suprised how far the brand had expanded and how many different varieties of Ryvita were now available. The box cost me £1.22 for 200g and I do think they sometimes have offers for 2 for £2. After having a quick look at the blurb on the box I was quite impressed by how healthy they sounded and the front had the tag line of '100% Wholegrain Rye & All Natural Ingredients'
Next day, I decided to try them for my lunch, I pulled 3 out of the packet and decided to try the first one in it's purest form with nothing on top so I could really taste what they were like. I was really impressed, ok they were still Ryvita and they are never going to be my favourite food but they were soo much better than the plain variety that I had been used too. I love the taste of Pumpkin Seeds and it was these that gave these Ryvita a really great moreish taste. I would never choose to eat them plain but this was tasty enough to be tolerable. Next one I heaped a big spoon of houmous on and it was really yummy.
That is the big downside of Ryvita for me, I do enjoy them with things that perhaps are not so healthy. So a thumbs up from me, it may be a phase but I think those who do really like Ryvita will love these.
