Advantages: makes tasty easy meal
Disadvantages: none
I use Saccla sauces fairly often. The other day I bought a Saccla sun dried tomato pesto sauce from Tesco‘s it costs £1.77p for the 190g jar.. The glass jars I think quite attractive and the fillings delicious.
Saccla is an Italian company first established in Asti just before the Second World War. Saccla makes many pesto or tomato products available in most supermarkets.
I get home from the shops after an exhausting day at work wanting to spend little time and energy making the evening meal,
So I put the shopping away. Put a pan of pasta on to cook. And twists open the gold lid on the jar of saccla sun dried tomato pesto sauce. When the pasta was cooked I just poured in the contents of the jar and stirred it in. I used about 150-200g g of pasta for the two of us and the pesto sauce in the 190g jar was about the right quantity to coat the pasta . I served the meal only took about 15 minutes to prepare and cook. I sprinkled some parmesan cheese on top of the pasta. This would be good served with a garlic bread to fill us up a little more if we were really hungry .hubby and I ate our meal then snoozed for a little while, while we listened to the 7 o’clock news.
This pesto sauce was tasty yes I could taste the tomato and herbs it’s got basil in it, red peppers cashew nuts, pine kernels, garlic carrots Grana Padano Cheese, Pecorino Romano Cheese. Yes I know I say I do not like nuts but their flavour in this pesto sauce is good not overpowering...
If you have nut or dairy intolerance then this pesto is not for you. But it is free from gluten, Soya, flavourings, and preservatives
Per 100g this sauce contains 289kcal 4.2g protein 5.2 g carbohydrates 27.9 g fat.
I have cheated and used this jar of saccla sun dried tomato pesto in a beef casserole to add that extra flavour, also added the contents of a jar to a pan full of mince beef that I then served with some spaghetti. Its good stirred into cous cous too. There are recipes for a chicken and a lamb dish on http://www.sacla.co.uk/recipes/details.asp?rId=37. Basically add this to any meal that you want to add that little Italian tomato zest to. I have not tried it but it would probably be good on a plain pizza base.
I like pasta sauces think they make a quick easy fairly cheap supper. When camping on a summer hols they are good as they are easy to use with only a camping gaz for cooking on.
Thanks for reading Mary
After writing this I shall be going to Tesco later today shall buy ingredients to make a pasta meal for today.
Summary: A jar of pesto sauce to make an italian flavoured meal

- 21/01/07 I tried the Sacla sauces for the first time just before Christmas as they were on special in Budgens. Not too disappointed with them, think I'll try the pesto one next. x |

- 20/01/07 We quite often have pasta with pesto and a bowl of soup. I like actually dipping the pasta in the soup! |
