... sugar. Whilst I am sure that no-one with a fish allergy would be considering this product, it helpfuly informs us under dietary information that it contains fish. As with all Sainsburys smoked salmon this is Scottish salmon and it meets RSPCA welfare standards for farmed salmon. When you open the packet you find lots of little pieces of salmon which are indeed different shades. I presume that these are the pieces left over when the thin slices are cut for the more expensive packets of smoked salmon. It doesn't lo...more

Premium Review Sainburys Basics Smoked Salmon Trimmings: I Feel All Posh Now (345 words)

I love smoked salmon but am not so in love with the price so when my mum noticed that Sainsburys Basics sell smoked salmon for about 90p a packet she brought some and we tried it with our scrambled eggs this morning and it's delish. The only difference between this dead cheap smoked salmon and the more expensive ones is that this one looks a bit manky because the salmon is in bits instead of slices and the colour isn't very consistent through the packet. The colour of most of it is a good pink but some bits have got a bit of a fainter colour and there are some tiny bits of darker fish that I think is where Sainsbury's have taken the skin and fat off very ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Excellent value, but too shabby for guests! (488 words)

I'm a huge smoked salmon fan, but I have to admit that it can be a bit of a stretch on a budget, so when I saw Sainsburys Basics Smoked Salmon Trimmings, I decided to give them a go - after all, they were only 88p, which is pretty inexpensive . The packet is a kind of flattish white rectangular pack, with orange writing and details, including full nutritional information, ingredients listings, use by dateetc and a clear window through which you can see the trimmings . The pack also informs us that it will contain various slices, shapes, and shade, which to be honest I think didn't really need stating - we all know what trimmings are! The back of the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sainburys Basics Smoked Salmon Trimmings: Salty and cheap salmon..... (678 words)

One of my favourite things to eat in the world is a warm toasted muffin with some soft cheese on and lashes of fresh salmon. I usually buy rather expensive salmon or none at all so when I saw this at 88p I thought I'd have a go with it! I've read reviews on it (on here) which are a mixed bag (read other people's reviews lol) so I was a bit intrigued by it really! The Packaging.... Oblong but quite wide white plastic packet with silver tray inside and on the right hand side of the packet there is a clear 'window' of which you can see some of the salmon through. To the top of the packet there is a orange band of colour and on that in white writing I'm ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Put some smoky fishy in your dishies (653 words)

*Massive possibilities, miniscule price* A great product for the miniscule (current) price of £0.88, these smoked salmon trimmings are ideal for use in a variety of cookery projects. Essentially you're looking at dishes which involve cooking, as if you wanted some good quality smoked salmon for a salad, other cold dish or canapé you would probably want to look at spending a little more. Although the foil tray with the selection of oddly coloured fragments isn't too pretty to look at, this Basics product has a lot of positive selling points. It has been sustainably fished, the fact that it's a budget product means that there's minimal packaging ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sainburys Basics Smoked Salmon Trimmings: All The Trimmings (529 words)

If you have a favourite recipe that uses a small amount of smoked salmon, or maybe you would like to fill some vol au vents or treat yourself to a smoked salmon kedgeree then the quality of the Basics smoked salmon trimmings is sufficiently good enough. I fully appreciate that if you are going to eat smoked salmon for supper then you would have to go all out and buy salmon steaks, I wouldn't want to sit down to a plate of fishy trimmings either! The pack of Basics smoked salmon trimmings does look like the poor relation in the chiller cabinet, there is little that anyone can do to make the product look more aesthetically pleasing. Sainsbury's have ...  Read the complete review
