Sainsbury`s Angel cake is perfect for serving with an afternoon cuppa. In fact only this morning I have been to my local store, noticed that they were on offer and have come home with two for £2, usually they are £1.29 each so that was a good deal. But if you take into account the packaging is simplicity itself and the product labelling is basic I am sure that helps explain how Sainsbury`s can manage to offer them to their customers at such affordable prices. The pretty pastel coloured cake is clearly visible through the plain plastic heat sealed wrapper and the label shows a couple of slices of the delectable tri-coloured soft sponge sitting side by ... You can find angel cake in most supermarkets, and many stores have their own brands. This particular review is about the Sainsbury's brand. The cake looks much the same as all angel cakes, with pink, yellow and white layers sandwiched together with a thin layer of white creamy icing. The colours are quite nice and pastel hued, and so the cake doesn't look too bright or artificial the way that some angel cakes can. I found the cake to be moist and soft, as a nice sponge should be, but I was disappointed by the taste, which was quite bland. There wasn't a great deal of flavour to it and it didn't seem to be much of a treat. Also, there wasn't much of ... Read the complete review

Being so in love with Mr Kiplings Angel Slices when I saw this cake on offer at Sainsburys I decided to give it a go. In comparison to the Angel Slices, this comes as a cake 'slab' the packet suggests an eighth is a slice but for a good inch thick piece i'd say a sixth is a better option :) Per eight it is just under 150 calories so dont go eating the whole thing lol Unlike the picture shown my lower slice of cake was yellow, with pink in the middle and white on the top, with vanilla filling holding it all together. Now whats a proper review without a taste test (hard life aint it) so I settled down with a cup of tea and indulged..... ... Read the complete review

I've never been a cak person, but I really fancied a nice angel cake when out shopping. I saw the Mr Kipling one that is considerably more expensive than this, then I saw the Sainsbury's own one and thought I'd try this instead. One slice of the cake (about an eighth) is just under 150 calories so dont which is quite a lot really, so don't be like me and eat the whole thing in go which is easy because it tastes great. There are three layers of the cake, a pink layer, a yellow layer and the white layer in between. yummm :) I quite liked this cake. It was a little dry because there isn't any icing ontop or sugar cream inside. The cake was ... Read the complete review

Sainsbury's angel cake is composed of three layers of differently coloured sponge: the colours of the layer are pink, white and a pale yellow colour. In between each layer of sponge there is also a filling of soft, creamy white icing and the cake itself is topped and bottomed with a soft brown crust from the baking process. I bought this cake looking to treat myself and whilst I had had angel cake in the past and knew therefore what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the Sainsbury's effort. The cake was light and sweet and was not dry in the slightest - so often a blighting factor in many supermarket brand cakes. The sugary icing is also a ... Read the complete review
