We had these last week from sainsburys as a treat and I was very impressed with them.
In a pack you get two quite large apple pies, I would say the size of a bagel. They come in a plastic tray, which is annoying from a recycling perspective, but I suppose it keeps them fresh, and they are also in individual foil trays. The pack of two costs £1.00 which I think is a pretty reasonable price for two apple pies.
I think you could eat these cold, but they were a bit big to eat with just your hands, so I warmed mine up for a bit and had it with some ice cream. I literally warmed it in the microwave for about 1 minute and it was hot enough for me.
The taste of these pies was great. The pastry was very crumbly and buttery and melted in the mouth, it also had a light dusting of sugar on the top to sweeten it. The apple on the inside was a bit sweet for me, I would have like a d bit more tartness to it, but it still tasted good, and there were some nice chunks of apple in there, which were actually a bit bigger than I expected but I liked them.
The fat content of these was very high 20.2g of fat per pie, so they are not something that you can have every day, but as a one off I'm sure it can't do that much harm.
The pastry and the apple were a great combination, and both seemed to be great quality, It was only the massive plastic tray that annoyed me a bit, but I'm not sure what they could do to combat this, however I would still recommend these as they were very tasty. Just a tiny bit too sweet for me, but that's just personal preference.
