Advantages: The sponge is lovely

Disadvantages: Not many chocolate chips

I have walked past these a lot lately and pondered over whether I should pick a packet up for Noah. The only reason that stops me is the fact that in a moment of madness I could well open the packet and consume the lot. Well today Noah was so good at the shops and when he himself reached for them and asked if he could have them, I couldn't say 'No' despite the fact that he could have easily been persuaded otherwise.

I was being so good and then Andrew went back into work for a 'parent's evening' tonight so I was all alone and the inevitable happened. I took comfort in two of these bars which is why I am reviewing them as I eat now!

They cost me 75p and in the pack you get five bars that are individually wrapped in there own special packet. They can be found in the cakes aisle at Sainsburys.

On opening one of the cakes I was surprised to see that the cake sat in a cardboard tray which I thought was strange considering we should be trying to get rid of needless packaging but obviously Sainsburys doesn't think they are needless.

The cake had a nice golden tinge to it and smelt very sweet which got my mouth watering. I forgot that the cakes were suppose to be chocolate chips because I couldn't see any as I studied the outer area.

I was surprised at how good they were when I took my first bite and I was more than happy to open up cake number two and consume that too. The cake was surprisingly moist and melted in my mouth as I chewed it up. I could taste a hint of vanilla but it wasn't too overpowering; just enough to compliment the texture of the cake.

My only complaint is that there weren't that many chocolate chips inside and this is obviously where they had skimped so they could pay for the extra needless packaging! I had about four in each and they didn't taste of much or give the over all cake a chocolately taste at all.

These would be great for lunchboxes or picnics and you don't have the inconvenience of trying to cover up the packet because they are already covered anyway.

Despite my complaint, I really enjoyed this product and felt that the sponge was of a great quality. I will definitely buy them again and I'm just pleased that Noah isn't at an age where he can tell when I have stolen his sweet treats!

Each cake contains 112 calories, 6.3g of sugar and 6.2g of fat.

Summary: Buy these for lunch boxes
