I love to make myself a curry though I wouldn't know where to start from scratch so recently I've been purchasing the odd curry sauce mix/jar etx along with piece of chicken and an onion and when I saw this at 4p a jar I couldn't believe it was so cheap I had to try one out! lol. The Packaging: 440g roundish glass jar with a white screw on/off lid to the top of it and it has a white label that goes around it's main 'body' On the front of that all in orange and white writing I'm told it is Sainsbury's 'Basics' Curry Sauce 'Simpler selection, but the spice is right', there is a scribble of what I think is meant to be a pile of spice, there is an at a ... I bought a jar of this curry sauce in Sainsbury's for just 9 pence last week. I have previously tried the Tesco Value one and found it to taste fine, so I thought that I would give this one a try, too. As it is so cheap, it wouldn't matter too much if it wasn't very nice, and I planned to use it as a base for my curry, with other spices added to it. The jar contains 440g of curry sauce, and the label has the Sainsbury's Basics logo, which says that it is a 'simpler selection, but the spice is right'. The sauce is a brown/orange colour, and has the appearance of a curry sauce that you might get at the chip shop. The taste is fairly mild, but this is fine, as ... Read the complete review

I had to do a double take when I noticed this was priced at just 4 pence per 440g jar! I bought one to try, thinking it would probably not be very nice given the tiny price, but at that price it was worth a go. The consistency of the sauce reminds me of traditional chip shop style curry sauce, that you buy to dip chips in. However I fried some chicken and added onions, peppers, mushrooms, before adding this sauce. It easily makes enough to feed a family of four, which is incredible value for money. It is full of flavour and really tasty. Personally, I found it a tad on the spicy side, so I usually add a little yoghurt or coconut milk to calm it down, and would ... Read the complete review

You would think with most foods that they wouldn't taste that great if a jar of it was only 9p. Sainsburys basics curry sauce attempts to prove this wrong. I'm not saying that it's the most disgusting tasting thing in the world, it is definitely edible and enjoyable. I would still definitely choose other curries over this one though, and I'm going to tell you why. To start with, the appearance of the curry, it is a very deep yellow, nearly mustard colored, which isn't the most appetizing of things. It also looks very watery, this may be to some peoples preferences, but myself, I like a nice thick curry sauce. It's not hard to miss that this sauce doesn't have ... Read the complete review
