Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: Careful dunking them!
When I spotted these I couldn't resist purchasing them the other day! Nice big packet for the little price tag of 31p for such a large packet of biscuits, they had to be bought cos I just love biscuits and simply adore plain digestives!
The Packaging....
Long, white and orange plastic 'tube' shape packet. On the front of the packet in white and orange writing I'm told they are Sainsbury's Basics, Digestive Biscuits that are 'smaller but great for dunking' and there is a scribble in orange colour of what is meant to be one of the biscuits. I'm told they now contain less salt and there is a nutritional at a glance pye chart on there and the best before date is clearly stamped on in black ink. On the back of the packet all in black writing I'm given a full nutritional value table, ingredients and allergy advice are given, I'm told how to store them, I'm given contact details for Sainsbury's, size is stated (400g) and finally there is a bar-code on there. Very simple and economy looking packet but I do like the little tab on the side of my packet to make them easier to open and these I couldn't wait to try!
The Biscuits....
Well I counted 32 in total in my packet. Smaller than what I'm used to in appearance but not by all that much really. Although round, golden and smaller than usual they still look good quality. They have written on each one of the biscuits the word sweetmeal and a few small holes are dotted into the biscuit. The top other than that is smooth in appearance and the base is slightly rough and lined giving it a different texture entirely to the top of the biscuit. There is no real smell to these even if you sniff hard (which I did) lol.
Taste wise they are really good and not at all greasy. Not too thick, they have a really nice crunch to them that melts in the mouth. They are not too sweet and the taste is rather wheaty but with a really nice oat taste to them making them feel substantial and filling too.
As I said they do melt in the mouth and chew up and digest really easily. As for dunking well a quick dunk and your fine but yes these biscuits do drink your tea and do scum in the bottom of the mug but they don't give up all signs of life when they come into contact with liquid but you don't wanna hang about with these too long at the same time cos you will lose them in a drink lol!
Overall....
Great quality and great flavour. At 31p a packet they are economical alone but to be able to say they taste great too is brilliant! I certainly wouldn't be ashamed to take these out of the packet and offer them to visitors. Usually a packet of branded biscuits will set you back over 80p and they're a smaller size in volume though only bigger in diameter.
They taste really nice and as you would expect a branded biscuit to taste. They are not overly sweet, have a nice crunch and creamy taste (when chewed) and are seriously a must have for biccie lovers!

- 03/04/09 Just get a biscuit barrel and hand them to visitors in that and then you wouldnt have to worry about the label (not that you are anyway!) Going by this they wouldnt know the difference. |
