Advantages: tasty, cheap

Disadvantages: none

Cruising the biscuit aisle one day, I spotted a familiar white package. A white package with orange writing - the sign of Sainsbury's basics. This makes me happy, to spot new Basics items I was not aware of before. Becaue Basics items are, as a rule, awesome. So I decided to buy a packet of these because they were only 31p and I felt they would be awesome. And, dear reader, they were awesome.

As is to be expected.

I like these digestives because they're quite a neat size. Usually, digestives are huge, massive. These are quite a regular old average size. And so you don't feel overly fat when you go and eat one. Then two. Then...yes. But then you undo the goodness of a small size digestive but it doesn't matter anymore. As they are...delicious!

Now. I was looking at this old packet of one of those fancy digestive brands the other day - probably it was just supermarket own but, this, to me, is now fancy - and it had all these weird ingredients in it, like, er, sodium bicarbodextrinellophinix and calcium cooxeph or something weird like that and I was like, shock! horror! How dare these weird, GCSE Science names be in MY DIGESTIVES! And then I remembered that I had not bought these crappy digestives but rather had simple, ol' Basics sitting at home. Sitting at home with very few fancy smchmancy names. And this pleased me.

SO LETS HAVE A LOOK

Wheat Flour, Vegetable Oil, Wholemeal Wheat Flour, Sugar, Oatmeal, Whey Powder, Raising Agents: Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate, Ammonium Hydrogen Carbonate; Salt.

OK EVIDENTLY I LIED. There are some weird names but they are only raising agents and they are so nice that...I don't care. :( Sorry.

They're sort of chewy and dry. I think they taste like any old digestive, to be honest. I think I may have to go get one and eat it to prove this for certain. But I have already eaten one so this is not a good idea. I will try to resist. I really enjoyed these dry at first but, as digestives do, they tend to stick to your teeth. And this was unfortunate. My dad eats his dunked, in hot tea.

So I tried this. I do not like tea but I had tea, purely for dunking. And oh dear god these are so so so so so so so GOOD dunked! Aghhhh. And also it is very good when you dunk half of it and have this smidgen of undunkedness so you have soft biscuit and then a bit of chew. Om nom nom nom.

Anyhow, I cheerfully recommend these undunked but they are at the best dunked in something. I tried water but it was not quite the same as hot tea. I mean, these are just great for when you've come back from doing the garden or walking the dog or painting the bedroom and you're having a 'hot cuppa' (sorry, I stole this from an advert I suspect). And then you want something to dunk. Or maybe you don't. But I'm telling you you do, secretly, in the back of your mind. Something luuuuvly.

Such as Basics Digestives! Oh ho ho ho.

It is not a good idea to eat too many, though. To be honest. Per biscuit there is 2.8g of fat and 1.3g of saturates, 58 calories. It's not AWFUL but it's not great, either. But for one or two this is a lovely treat in the morning/afternoon/midnight when the wolves are howling.

Summary: I am digesting one right now.
