... bowl and then you add the mashed potato mix into it. Beat it together with a fork to get it to a creamy and thick mashed potato consistency. I suggest adding some milk, seasoning such as salt and pepper, and also a tad of butter/marg will perk it up a lot. Which, I can tell you, it needs it! If no seasoning is added, or you have no gravy/BBQ sauce/ketchup/anything, it's incredibly bland and quite disgusting. With seasoning, it's only just bearable. 1 packet of the basics mash mix makes six servings. It's good value, as ...more

Premium Review Sainsbury's Basics Instant Mashed Potato Mix: Acceptable mash for those strapped of cash! (443 words)

Having a meal and realising there isn't quite enough of everything is awful. You feel like you're depriving everyone around you of basic essential nourishment... this is when you grab a bag of the smash. Or at least the basics brand! Obviously, a mashed potato mix is no contender to an actual mashed spud... but sometimes it's too late when you've plated up and need a quick extra bit of padding! It's alright if you already have a good main meal consisting of something like a burger, or sausages, or something along those lines with veg. I think to pull it off you need other lovely components to your meal... here's why! To make up, hot water is placed ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Smashing mash! (292 words)

Whilst I do like to do a lot of cooking from scratch, sometimes I'm feeling too tired or lazy, and like to cheat a little - especially when cooking for my daughter, who tends to get hungry a lot earlier than me . She just isn't going to wait while I make real mash to go with her sausages - if she wants dinner, she wants it now! So, instant mash is a little bit of a godsend when it comes to convenience - it comes in a white back with orange writing on it, and costs 34p for a 250g pack . The pack contains all the relevant nutritional and ingredient information, as well as instructions to make it - which is pretty simple , measure out the required amount of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sainsbury's Basics Instant Mashed Potato Mix: Basics Spud Mix (461 words)

Have you ever tried to make a meal including mashed potatoes when camping? I don't think anyone does it because it's too hard to do in a tent. This is when Sainsburys Instant Mashed Potato Mix comes into its own. I think just about anybody writing a review will explain emphatically that they prefer genuine mash to the real thing. I'm no different - but when I'm off in the great outdoors it's a different thing. A bag of instant mash is great (I put it with tinned peas, tinned sweetcorn and some Linda McCartney veggie sausages - quick, easy and tasty camping dinner). I thought the packaging was surprisingly large when I first saw it - especially ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sainsbury's Make A Mean Mash Mix! (402 words)

I like to make the majority of my meals from scratch but sometimes I have neither the time nor the inclination to 'do it myself' so I like to keep some tinned products or packets in the cupboard for quick & easy meals that are still relatively healthy. This instant mash comes in powdered form and to make just measure out the required amount as per the instructions on the back of the packet & you just need to add some boiled water to this mix. It's very simple to make and you can make it to the consistency that you like. To give the mash less of an artificial taste I usually add a few knobs of butter as well as some salt & pepper and I ...  Read the complete review

Sainsbury's Basic Instant Mashed Potato Mix So in my idea world where my house was always tidy, my kids always clean and I didn't look like I hade been dragged through a hedge backward I would never eat instant mash it would always be fresh mash made from potatoes I picked that morning from my own organic garden. But sadly not many of us live in this idea world, most of us live in the world where we are running around like head less chickens and have about 5 mins to make are children and our self some thing decent for dinner. Instant mash in general is dried potato flakes that you add water to make mash potato. I always have ...  Read the complete review
