Being a student feeding myself on a fairly small budget, I have to cut back on costs as much as possible. Sainsbury's Basics Bread is a good way to do that. It is still quite cheap (just under 50p) despite having fallen victim to a fairly large price hike in recent months. For what you pay for it, this is good stuff. It is quite soft and is tasty, and is quite satisfying, especially as toast, which is the primary way in which i use bread. It's also great for dipping in soup (oddly enough i tend to find that the cheaper the bread is, this better it is for soup). The biggest downside f this product is it tends to go off quite quickly. If I leave it in a ... Read the complete review

I eat loads and loads of bread (I really do) It's a massive problem for my Mother who is the one that buys it and she's always going mad at me. I can eat 6 slices toast in one day and that's without a sandwich and stuff through out the day! I just love the stuff and it makes up the bulk of my diet! The Packaging: See-through plastic, oblong bag with white and orange sections of colouring on it and a yellow tie at one end displaying the best before date. On the front of it I'm told it is Sainsbury's 'Basics' Medium Sliced White Bread 'Basic recipe, loves to be buttered up' and there is a scribble on there of a piece of bread and a nutritional 'at a ... Before my current relationship, I'd bought Sainsburys basics white medium sliced bread quite regularly, and at 38p a loaf as it was then it was pretty good value. Of the basics range offered by the main supermarkets Sainsburys was far superior to the others and actually stayed fresher longer. Unfortunately it's not everyone's cup of tea, and my partner detests all the cheap brands that are available - in fact she finds even the better ones a little hard and tasteless too. It depends what you see as important - taste and quality or a product that you can use for sandwiches and toast in which you taste the other ingredients. It isn't ... Read the complete review

As anyone who has read my other reviews will know, I had a very tight budget and live for a bargain. Partly through being a student, partly through being silly with credit cards, I've learnt to appreciate the cheaper things in life. And that applies more than ever when it comes to the staple parts of my diet, bread being one of these. One main advantage of this bread is obviously the price. At 38p for an 800g loaf, compared to the £1+ I'd be asked to pay for a brand named loaf of the same size, it is a very clear bargain. After all, why pay at least an extra 62p a week for pretty pictures on your wrapper? You're not going to eat the packaging, are ... Read the complete review

I find that I like Warburton's Bread for Sandwiches, but any cheap Bread seems nice enough for Toast. The Bread doesn't seem to taste that hard and spongy when it is Toasted. Unfortunately I picked this up the other night when coming home. There was only a couple of loafs left, and I thought this one would be ok. It was an emergancy after all. This is Sainsbury's budget brand called Basics. This 800g Loaf of White bread cost 46p. The packaging was alright. It was the usual poly bag that you get bread in. There is a see through panel that runs along the pack, so you can see the thickness of the slices, and the Crusts. The pack was white and had the ... Read the complete review
