Each slice contains - 78kcals 14.3g carbohydrates 0.8g fat 2.4g fibre 0.32g salt The bread is low in calories and has a high amount of fibre per slice, which makes it a good choice for a healthy diet. The only negative thing is that the levels of salt are quite high per slice. This could add up if you were eating a few slices a day. The appearance of the bread is not that exciting. It just looks like a plain piece of brown bread, and the slices are fai...more

Premium Review Sainsbury's Basics Medium Wholemeal Bread: Sainsbury's Basics Wholemeal Bread (310 words)

Sainsbury's Basics Wholemeal Bread costs 50 pence for a sliced loaf, containing 800g. I have bought this loaf of bread a few times recently, and have been pleased with it's quality as an everyday bread. We have used it for sandwiches, toast and also to make some breadcrumbs to keep in the freezer. It toasts well and is good with a variety of sandwich fillings. The packaging is plain and simple, with the Sainsbury's Basics white and orange logo on the front. It states that it is 'simply wholemeal bread, great for sandwiches'. Review of Sainsbury's Basics Wholemeal Bread ~~The Product~~ I am reviewing Sainsburys Basics Wholemeal Bread, one of the many lines introduced to the supermarket's budget range of foodstuffs and household goods. ~~Packaging, Storage Advice, Taste and Texture~~ The 800g loaf of medium sliced bread is simply packaged in a transparent polythene wrapper. The wrapper bears the distinctive Sainsbury's Basics logo in a white font on an orange flash with the product description in orange on a white flash. The wrapper also carries the ingredients, nutritional values, allergy advice and storage instructions on the reverse. The ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sainsbury's Basics Medium Wholemeal Bread: Beware - Not as cheap as it looks (401 words)
by - written on 06/10/09 (Very useful, 20 readings)

I did my weekly shop at the new 'Sainsburys Local' down the road earlier this week and was really looking to save some money after a few nights on the town. Therefore, i thought 'Bread is bread'. Whats the difference going to be between paying £1.50 and 45p; read on, and you shall see and hopefully never make the same mistake. General Info ---------------- Sainsbury's Basics is a similar principle to that of Tesco Value or Asda Smartprice products. Basically own branded products that are even cheaper than your normal own branded product. In the last few weeks i have had mixed luck with these items, so thought that trying ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Reasonable Basics Wholemeal Bread. (363 words)

This product is available in Medium from Sainsburys around 50p in Sainsburys. This is a very reasonable price for a loaf of bread and you get around 20 slices on average in the bag also these are really thin slices (in my opinion) not medium ones. It is provided in a clear plastic bag with the Sainsbury's 'Basics' logo on it and it has an orange and white label with the usual nutritional information, ingredients, barcode etc. This can be frozen and has 78 calories per slice which seems pretty standard for medium slices of wholemeal bread. The slices are fairly thin but because they have less calories and fat than white slices I don't ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sainsbury's Basics Medium Wholemeal Bread: A budget bread! (274 words)

I like nice bread but on occasions I find that I am running out of the shopping budget money towards the end of the month and have to make a few sacrifices in areas. I either opt for this or the Tesco cheap brand depending on where I am shopping. The loaf costs 45p and in comes in one size which is 'medium'. This bread isn't amazing but it isn't bad either. The slices are generous when it comes to size although they are a little thinner than your average slice. The bread has a very pleasant taste to it and is very soft and fresh. One of the things I often find that can be a problem with the cheaper loaves is that they split as you are trying to ...  Read the complete review
