I've really taken to the Sainsburys Basics range, and thought that I would expand my shopping from just the trusted essentials to a few treats as well, so I decided to grab myself a bar of their basics milk chocolate and see if it was any good . At 27p for a 100g bar, it's certainly cheap - miles cheaper than buying the same amount of chocolate would be in my corner shop . The packaging wasn't too inspiring though, being the standard bland orange and white colour that the Basics range is known for . Not interesting, but at least recognisable, and it did contain all the relevant nutrition and ingredient information . The nutritional info, rather than ... Read the complete review

I was in my local Sainsbury's when I wanted a cheap snack to have in my bag for a 2 hour journey and I saw the Basics range so I thought I would give it a go. At 27p for a 100g bar, I thought I was getting a bargain. And I pretty much was getting a bargain. I am no massive lover of chocolate but it is a good pick-me-up for a long day. The packaging didn't exactly jump out at me, a stark white wrapper with the Sainsbury's orange writing, but it is the typical plain, cuts-down-on-cost type of packing that is in most shops nowadays. You can clearly see the pie chart of nutritional information on the front as well as having a slightly more detailed version on the ... Read the complete review

This is my first food review, so apologies if it's not very good. Now, I love chocolate. I imagine you probably do too, it's an oft guilty pleasure that brings enjoyment to many. You may have your favourite bars with nuts and layers and caramel or nougat but sometimes, it's truly satisfying to take a bit of a solid bar of plain milk chocolate. Sainsbury's Basics 100g Milk Chocolate bar costs just 27p! 27 pence! Wow. When learning this you may experience two different thoughts; 1. '27p? For 100g of chocolate?! I shall buy loads!' 2. '27p? For 100g of chocolate?! I must be terrible, surely.' Both of these are fair, for 27p ... Read the complete review

I love to make fairy cakes with my nieces and nephews and for my fiance but I like to try and do this as cheaply as possible. In the past I have purchased basic or value chocolate (milk and dark) and then melted it down with a little water and used it to top off my sponge cakes. This 'Basics' bar of Milk Chocolate is currently available from Sainsbury's for just 27p and this usually tops around 30 cakes. The packaging is basic but then I'd expect nothing more. It has the familiar Sainsbury's orange and white colour scheme that I will always associate with cheaper products now. The chocolate is in squares and there is nothing ... Read the complete review

As I was away over Easter I decided to throw an Easter party the following Sunday for my granddaughters' and a few select members of my family and their respective children/grandchildren. Despite buying so much food that my neighbour had to store some of the chilled items in her fridge, my ten year old granddaughter decided that she wanted to make some chocolate nests she'd seen being made on tele. Luckily she mentioned this while I was in Sainsbury's so I went and had a look at the chocolate available, the first thing I spotted was the range of Basics chocolate which costs a bargain 27p per 100g block and is significantly cheaper than buying Dairy Milk. I ... Read the complete review
