      Cheapy mince pies!

One thing I really do love is mince pies. Sadly I'm rubbish at making them and me Mother is worse! At Christmas I only eat boxed ones really and the other day I was in Sainsburys and spotted these and at 39p a pack for 6 of them so I had to try them! I just love em with a cup of tea!

      The Packaging:

Clear and white oblong plastic wrapper with mainly orange writing on the front and I'm told that they are Sainsbury's 'Basics' 6 Mince Pies 'A little less fruity, still just as jolly' and I' told they are freezable and suitable for Vegetarians, there is an at a glance nutritional chart on there and the best before date is clearly displayed, On the back of the packet I'm given a list of ingredients and allergy advice is stated, there is a full nutritional run-down on there, contact details for Sainsbury's are listed and a few other irrelevant bits and bobs. The pies are in 2 rows of 3 which you can partially see through the packet and in silver bases.

      The Pies:

Well open up the packet and as I've stated there are 6 pies in here. All rather flat really like they've been sat on and squashed but they're not in a mess. Not too small either, they are round in shape with slightly rough lids to them and are cream in colour. Apart from them looking a little squashed they look ok and give off no aroma.

Taste wise, again they're ok. Nothing to rave about here but for the price they're nice enough. The pastry is a little on the thick side and doesn't contain a large amount of flavour to it but it does melt after a bit in the mouth and is digestible though a bit filling I thought! The filling is a dark brown/black which contains small lumps of orange, fruit peels and apples and has a little bit of spice to it. There isn't much of it really at all and they could do with a little more in them but what there is is sticky and tasty enough.

      Verdict:

No one could be fooled these are top class or home made mince pies, they are what they are and they taste ok really lol. A bit hefty on the pastry and not enough filling but hey ho I wouldn't go mad for these but I would eat them again. I cant say fairer than that lol.
