On my usual quest to reduce my evergrowing food bill, I came across Sainsbury's Basics Partbake Baguettes. I usually buy their own brand anyway as I find these type of things useful to store in the cupboard. I love warm bread rolls and as I can't be bothered to bake them myself from scratch, these are the next best thing. I must admit on visual inspection, you can tell that you are buying a basic brand as the bagettes themselves are thinner than the standard brand and slightly flatter, but as there was a 40p difference in price, the difference in size was not considerable. Sainsburys basics 2 Part Baked Baguettes. I have never, even before these credit crunch times been afraid to try anything from any of the supermarket's basic or value ranges. Some you win and some you lose, but with these baguettes you definatly win. You get a pack of 2 almost the size of a small French baton loaf but not quite. They can be stored in the cupboard or frozen and all they need is 10 minutes in a hot oven. The taste and smell of fresh warm baguette is in my mind irrisistable. I can thoroughly recommend these incredibly cheap part-baked baguettes. Although I can't pretend to be a great connoisseur of bread, I have been unable to detect any difference in taste or quality between the Sainsbury's Basics part-baked baguettes and the Sainsbury's standard range of part-baked products. I suspect the flour used in the Basics range may be of a lower grade but it would take a very refined palate to detect the difference. The packaging is simple with the distinctive orange and white Basics label, the price is very low at just a shade under 40p, which is roughly half the price of the standard part-baked range, and the shelf life is ...
