... for just 27p and this usually tops around 30 cakes with a lovely generous layer that takes a good couple of hours to really set hard and avoid getting any finger prints in. The packaging is basic but then I'd expect nothing more. It has the familiar Sainsbury's orange and white colour scheme that I will always associate with cheaper products from Sainsburys. The chocolate is in squares and there is nothing fancy to it, no logos or anything like that on it. It's easy enough to break off the amount of chocolate ...more

Premium Review Sainsbury's Basics Plain Chocolate: Cheap chocolate (225 words)

My God this stuff is good! I decided to try a 100 gram packet as it was just 27p. Which is cheap considering my normal 42 gram packet of chocolate can cost up to 50p in some shops. It lasts longer - but not much longer! I ate the entire pack in just a few minutes! It melts very quickly so don't keep it in your fingers for too long. I thought that it wouldn't taste very nice, but I was wrong. It has a very creamy taste. And it's chocolate, you can't go wrong with chocolate! However my brother said he didn't like the taste of it, but I suppose that's just because it had Sainsbury's Basic packaging on. I suppose many kids are like that - but they are wrong in ...  Read the complete review

Everbody loves chocolate, it has mysterious magical properties that make it irressistabvle to us mere humans, well maybe it doesn't but there's definately something about it that makes us all love it. Not only is it fabulous tasting but it is actually known that dark chocolate is good for you!! Yes oyu heard me right! It contains anti-oxidants It's high in magnesium It does actually make you feel happier It contains some essentials nutrients It's really good tasting Most people have a favourite brand of chocolate out of several top quality, normally expensive names. But I like most chocolate, being a little strapped for cash a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sainsbury's Basics Plain Chocolate: You'd be bar-my not to buy this! (327 words)

I've been buying Sainsburys Basics dark chocolate (was called plain but is called dark now) for the past few years. The bar size is 100g and only costs 27p at the moment and I've never seen these more than 29p when i've bought them. The packaging is the basics plain text printed on a white film 'bag'. These are usually found on the bottom of the chocolate shelves. The bar has 15 pre scored pieces which are easy to break off (odd as values on the front are based on a quarter of the bar- how to divide 15 by 4??) I typically buy it to melt to dip strawberries in, use in chocolate krispies or on top of flapjack. It melts easily and sets hard quickly so ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review It's yummy! Plain and simple. (370 words)

I am a huge lover of plain dark chocolate so when I saw this on the shelf at Sainsbury's I just had to give it a try. I bought two bars because I am very greedy but I paid for it so don't laugh. I ate both of the bars and ended up with a huuuuuuuggggggggeeeee headache the next day. I felt like I had a hangover so if you do try it then only eat it in moderation. The chocolate is packaged in that very boring and off-putting 'Basics' wrapper. It cost me 27p for 100g and is found in the best aisle in the shop; The sweetie aisle!!!!!!! I couldn't even tell you how many squares there was in each bar because I ate it so quickly! They are quite thin ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sainsbury's Basics Plain Chocolate: Another triumph for the Basics range (280 words)
by - written on 09/10/09 (Very useful, 63 readings)

Although this is actually a review for Sainsbury's Basics Dark Chocolate, I am reasonably sure that this is the place to put it seeing as Sainsbury's no longer do a 'Plain' chocolate and seem to have replaced it with this. Sainsbury's Basics range is a range of products which are available much more cheaply than the normal brands. They have easily recognisable white and orange packaging and this chocolate is no different. It is packaged in white thin plastic with an orange bar across the top and the words 'No fancy packaging, just a good bar of chocolate' written in a handwriting style font across the front. Inside you will find a 100 gram bar of ...  Read the complete review
