... good for the money, for a pack of ten biscuits it's a bargain busting 12pence. Yes 12pence!! What can you buy these days for that, not much probably. They come in an orange and white packet like everything else in the Sainsburys Basics range so they stick out like a sore thumb. We both agreed that we'll get more next time we go as they are really nice. The texture and taste isn't really far from the so-called "luxury" versions i've tried in the past so it makes you wonder "why pay more". If you'...more

Premium Review Sainsbury's 'Basics' Shortbread Fingers: Basically shortbread (373 words)

All my family love shortbread but I usually only buy it around Christmas time, not really sure why, just a tradition we have. However, I was in the biscuit aisle in Sainsbury's last week trying to decide which ones to buy that wouldn't be too bad for us, when I saw their basics Shortbread fingers. They really stand out with their bright orange and white packaging and I was tempted to pick up the packet for a look. Now I am not a fan of food basic ranges in any supermarket as I always assume that they have more fat and sugar than the normal ranges to make up for lack of other ingredients. However, on comparing the fat and sugar content to another leading ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review How many fingers do you want? (342 words)

I love shortbread; it's probably my favourite biscuit. I say 'probably' because it's always been quite an expensive biscuit. However, those good old guys at Sainsbury's HQ have come up with a remarkably cheap packet of shortbreads. These are just 12p a pack. Now, they're part of the basics range, so the thin plastic wrapper is white with a strip of orange and it's nothing to look at, but what about the biscuits? When you open the pack, the biscuits look good. Some cheap brands look anemic and bland, but these are lovely and golden; good stuff! Texture-wise, they're nice and hard and crunchy. They crumble to the bite which is just right ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sainsbury's 'Basics' Shortbread Fingers: Who stole the sugar? (528 words)

Ever since I have been reading about the great prices and quality of Sainsbury's Basics range of biscuits, I have been finding my trolley has been breeding packets of biscuits. Our household doesn't usually buy biscuits due to the fact we eat them too quickly, so this revelation probably isn't one for the good of our household. However, we are still buying them because the prices are too good to resist. Each Christmas I would always buy a packet of shortbread as it's my favourite biscuit. When I saw the basics range for the bargain price of 12p, I had to see how they were going to compare to my Christmas luxury treat. Packaged in the trademark white and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Shortbread biscuits for 12p per pack! (433 words)

This is an absolutely gem that my hubby and I came across in Sainsburys when we were deciding what to have as a treat for the weekend. The pack contains ten individual biscuits and cost just 12p per pack!! That is the ultimate bargain if they taste good right? The biscuits are stacked in two rows and look exactly the same as the expensive shortbread fingers that you would buy. They are very thick and have the holes punched into the top of each one with a what looks like a fork. They are all a golden cream and leave sugar grains on your fingers as you pick them up. As far as smell goes there isn't really nothing to say because they don't have a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sainsbury's 'Basics' Shortbread Fingers: A gritty biccie! (459 words)

My Step-Father loves shortbread biscuits. Why am I telling you this? Cos I bought him a packet of these for 30p in my local Sainsbury's but he got in from work started yelling at me for no reason and in pure defiance I ate the lot with a much needed cuppa shortly afterwards lol. The Packaging... White and bright orange oblong plastic packet with white and orange writing on it telling me that the product is Sainsbury's 'Basics' Shortbread Fingers, 'No Fancy Packaging' (scribble of two of the shortbread fingers is on there too), I'm told they are Vegetarian, the best before date is stamped on and there is an at a glance nutritional chart on there. On ...  Read the complete review
