I bought a tub of this Sainsbury's Basics Soft Cheese a few days ago, whilst out doing my shopping. It cost only 45 pence for a tub containing 200g. This is a lot less than branded soft cheeses, such as Philadelphia. The packaging is the usual rectangular shaped box, with the Sainsbury's Basics orange and white logo, and is all very plain and simple, but I suppose that is what makes it much cheaper than others with more attractive packaging. I think that the bright colours make it stand out, though. The soft cheese has an appearance that is the same as any other, and it is really soft and creamy. It spreads well on to bread, crackers and toast. I ... Read the complete review

I love cheese spread, particularly the Philadelphia style cheese spreads, as they are so flexible . So, when I saw this for just 45p for 200g in the chiller aisle of my local Sainsburys I decided to pick some of this up and see how it compared . Its a simple white plastic tub with orange writing, and full nutritional info and ingredients . The top lid is clear plastic, and underneath this is a foil lid that you peel back to get at the cheese . Peeling back this lid is easy . The cheese is a lovely white colour, and very moist looking ,and the tub was generously filled . There isn't really any smell to the cheese other than a slightly creamy one, ... I nearly puked when I saw this in the fridge because I don't eat any except for Philadelphia now, I've tried cheap soft cheese before and it was horrible and I thought this would be really bad because it looked so cheap. I'd already defrosted and toasted my onion bagel though so I tried a bit to save wasting the bagel. It surprised me because it's quite like Philadelphia, you can tell it's a cheap brand because it's not as creamy and the flavour isn't quite right. It's a bit blander and hasn't got quite the right amount of cheeseyness to be Philadelphia but it deffo doesn't taste like some of the disgusting cheap soft cheeses you can get. If you ... I find soft cheese is such a convenient thing to have in the house. The boys like it on crackers and if I am hungry as I'm preparing tea, it's quick and easy enough to throw in a piece of bread for a quick snack. I found this on the shelf at Sainsburys for just 45p so thought I'd give it a go since I had, had a lot of success with the Asda Smartprice one. When I took off the lid I was met with some foil which was easy enough to peel back. The cheese was a fairly neutral cream and the tub was filled to the very top with the mixture. The cheese is very soft and when you get your knife in, it glides through the mixture easily and stays on the knife as ... Read the complete review

Loving crackers and ryvitas and things like that I'm constantly on the look out for decent toppings and at the same time products that are not too hefty in the calorie department. However I find alot of low fat options to be bland and tasteless so usually I look for the fuller in fat varieties of things and simply look for the healthiest option available to me in that case and use less if need be! I love soft cheese spreads and I hadn't tried this one before and when I saw the price of it simply had to give it a go as it was only 45p! The Packaging....
