Advantages: Cheap to purchase

Disadvantages: Tastes cheap and not one bit nice!

When it comes to desserts I really do love them and 'Angel Delight' is one my favourites simply cos I like the flavours and it's really quick and simple to make myself. When I saw this for 7p a sachet (yes really!) I felt it was a go a go instead of parting with my usual 47p for a sachet of Angel Delight!

The Packaging....

White paper, silver foil on the inside to keep the product fresh. On the front of the packet all in orange writing I'm told it is Sansbury's Basics Strawberry Dessert Mix 'No more effort still whips up a treat' and there is a picture scribbled on (also in orange) of what I assume is the whip made up in a dish. On the bottom of the packet I'm told that the product is suitable for vegetarians, contains no added sugar and that the best before date is displayed on the back of the packet and there is an at a glance nutritional pye chart displayed to the top left hand corner. On the back of the packet in black and white writing I'm again told what it is, given nutritional, ingredients and allergy information, told directions for use and how to store the product, size is stated (38g), best before date is indeed stamped on as I was told on the front of the packet, contact information for Sainsbury's is given and finally there is a bar- code on there. Very simple and cheap looking packaging this is but to be fair to it it only costs 7p a go and does actually contain all the information you need on there.

How To Make It Up....

For best results Sainsbury's Basics Dessert should not be prepared more than 2 hours before serving. This product tastes equally delicious made with whole or semi skimmed milk.

Add the contents of the packet to 300ml (1/2 pint) of cold milk and whisk for approximately 1 minute until light and creamy.
Stand for 1 minute to allow to thicken and spoon into individual dishes.
Ready to serve in 5 minutes or chill until required.

Eating It....

Make no bones about it... it is simply vile! I'd like to end the review there along with the words 'don't bother insulting your taste-buds' but feel I should back up my claims!

Mixing it up is simple enough according to the instructions. I simply put the light pink, fake strawberry smelling fine powder into a dish and added half a pint of milk and whisked for a minute....to be left with milkshake that was light pink and very powdery lumped looking. So inedible it was after a minute of whisking so I continued whisking away till after about 4 minutes the mixture peaked a bit. However unappetising this really looked!

It was a weird light pink colour to look at, not glossy and not smooth and smelt really, really sweet and fake and not one bit of natural strawberries. It just looked so lumpy like a weird blamange and nothing I could do could get it to look any different! As I tasted it I could really taste the added sweeteners opposed to sugar which is Sucralose (a sweetener) and although it smelt a little recognisable as strawberries I'd be hard pushed blindfolding to know that was meant to be the taste of this or even what it was!

Overall....

Made 2 servings and one got touched by me and the other went in the bin. Too sweet, weird texture and just not one bit tasty, I really didn't like it at all. It's cheap to buy and it tastes equally cheap. The packet looks cheap but when this is made up and in a dish it also appears it. It isn't soft and whippy or even light. It isn't smooth and glossy and I doubt this product has ever even had a strawberry anywhere near it. Avoid!

7p only in Sainsbury's.

With respect, what did you expect for 7p? Seriously though, by the time the retailer put their mark up on this, you've got about 2-3 pence worth of ingredients. They're unlikely to be getting anything very tasty for that sort of money.
