A Delicious Chicken & Mushroom Pie From BGTY At Sainsburys.

I have been trying to be nice and healthy of late and so when I spotted this BGTY chicken & mushroom pie reduced from £1.99 to 50p in the days reduced section I decided to pick it up even though I'm not the biggest fan of mushroom.

The pie is very simple to cook, just remove the paper sleeve, pierce film lid and place in the microwave for around 7 minutes. We have an industrial microwave at work so I decided to blast it for 3 minutes 30 seconds which was the perfect amount of time for this to be piping hot throughout so I would assume that 7 minutes is ideal in the microwave (as the packaging says).

This pie is made up of chicken breast, chicken thigh, mushrooms in a white wine sauce, mashed potato and a small amount of hard cheese on the top. The weight of the product is 450g and this contains 356 calories, 13.2g sugars, 11.9g fat, 5.3g saturates, 2.19g salt. This is a little high on the salt and saturated fat but overall for the quantity of food that you receive it's quite good on the nutritional scale with mainly greens on the food circle.

There is a fair amount of chicken breast and chicken thigh and I could not really differentiate between the two because they were both so tender and there was quite a bit of chicken mainly in the bottom of the plastic pot. The white wine sauce was quite creamy and tasty and there were lots of smaller pieces of mushrooms as well as two large slices which I didn't find particularly appetising so I picked these out. The sauce is full of flavour and brings a nice creamy texture to the dish. The mashed potato on the top of the 'pie' is lovely, soft, creamy and fluffy. The addition of hard cheese brings a nice cheesy taste to the pie without bringing too many extra calories.

This pie works very well and I mixed all the ingredients together so that the chicken, mushroom, sauce & potato was all together and it worked very well together. The whole thing has a lovely taste to it and the ingredients are a wonderful combination that work so well together and bring a nice tasty flavour whether combined or eaten singly.

Overall I think that this is a fantastic addition to the diet of anyone who is trying to live healthier or just eat something that is tasty, filling and has quite good nutritional content.

I would definitely recommend this pie as it's a fantastically filling dish available at a reasonable price and it has lots of nice flavours going on without being full of rubbish. The calorie content of this is quite low and while I ate this at lunchtime I would find it filling enough to eat at dinnertime on it's own and it would be enough to keep me happy until bedtime.

I'm really not the biggest fan of mushrooms and apart from the two large pieces I picked out I would say that the mushrooms don't bring too much to the dish but there is a nice flavour from them in the sauce and the main reason I purchased it regardless of the mushrooms was the 50p price but I was very pleased and would purchase it again at full price.
