Today we visited Mr Sainsbury's, a massive store that was buzzing. I cannot recall the last time that I had seen so many tins of chocolates being carted out in shopping trolleys. My Niece asked me if I would like a cake to go with my cup of tea when we got home and of course I did , It would have been rude to refuse ! I wasn't in a `creamy` mood, I just fancied something plain and simple and the Sainsbury's egg custard tarts were on offer at four for £1.00. So at twenty five pence each they seemed to offer very good value. Egg custard tarts are lovely and they remind me of my Mum who used to make her own, her egg custard tarts, which were rich and ... In Hong Kong, there is a pastry called "Egg Tart", which is absolutely divine. The closest thing we can get at supermarkets here are these Egg custard tarts. Whilst I might be comparing these to the Hong Kong style ones, these are completely different, and personally I find them refreshingly different and absolutely yummy. ~~~PACKAGING~~~ These come in a pack of four. Each tart has its own foil cup, these in turn are placed on a plastic tray and packaged in a box with a plastic window. I think there is way too much packaging involved, and they could easily remove the outer box and just have them in a plastic one, hence removing also the plastic ... Read the complete review

One thing my Mother always gets with the weekend shopping is some kind of nice cakes or biscuits for a Saturday afternoon, it's a bit of a ritual in our house. Both my Mother and my Step-Dad love an egg custard tart, where as me well...I sometimes like them and sometimes don't. One of their favourites is the Sainsbury's one's and at a pound a box for 4 egg custards they do work out a very economical option! The Packaging: Well the box is slightly different to the one shown on the review photograph at the top of this page but not too different (you'll still recognise it). The box is light yellow with a large clear window to the ... Read the complete review

Apart from cake and chocolate, egg custard tarts are one of my favourite things. When I was little I didn't like the consistency and I would urge but I can safetly say that I have grown up and matured and now I can appreciate a good one; these Sainsbury's ones are a 'good' one! The tarts come in a packet of four and will set you back just £1. They are quite big and are made up of a pastry outer and a egg custard mixture, topped off with a sprinkle of nutmeg. The pastry is sweet and tends to keep it's shape until you get to the last few bites so I would recommend that you have a plate to hand. The egg custard is sweet and eggy and the nutmeg is just ...
