Own brand jelly babies that are pretty nice (Sainsbury's Jelly Babies)

Advantages: They don't taste a whole lot different to the more expensive brands

Disadvantages: The fruitiness of the flavours is a bit lacking

***The Appearance***
As with jelly babies in general, these are loosely shaped like mini people and are sprinkled with a generous coating of sugar. When you take a bite out of one, you can really see the jelly inside but this isn't so obvious from looking at the outside alone.

***The Taste***
They taste very sweet and have a bit of a sickly taste if you eat too many in one sitting. Being made from jelly, they can be a tad chewy at times, although nothing like some sweets. As a general rule of thumb, you can eat one of these in three bites or less and often two bites will do the job. Although they are intended to be fruity jelly babies, they don't have the same fruity taste as say Bassetts and sometimes it is easy to forget that the various colours are supposed to taste like the fruits that they represent. In my experience, there is a subtle hint of lemon, orange etc. but it is quite faint on the whole. I guess this is probably to be expected from supermarket own brands but it isn't something that ruins my enjoyment of the sweets as to be honest, I probably eat them for their sweetness really and not for the fruitiness of the various colours.

***The Price***
Typically, a packet costs around 63p for a 280g bag but Sainsburys often run offers where you can buy two packets for £1. This runs on a wide variety of their own brand sweets, and is not just confined to the jelly babies.

***Nutrition Information***
As you might expect from my description of them, these sweets aren't exactly healthy. I've already hinted at the sugar content but to clarify, there is 48g of sugar per quarter of a bag, which is over 53% of the recommended daily guidelines. There is a trace of salt but the packaging doesn't say how much exactly. Amazingly, the packaging claims that there is no fat in these jelly babies whatsoever.

Summary: Some may find them inferior but I like them
